Before I began editing the image properly I coped the image down to the size of the magazine using the crop tool. This was so that any editing I do that isn’t within the square won’t be wasted.

I then used the curves tool to increase the exposure of the image to balance out the shadows. Due to the fact that I am using the shadows to portray the aggressiveness of the subject I made sure that I didn’t increase the curves too much to lessen this effect.

Due to the fact that curves wasn’t making the highlights bright enough I then used the tool brightness and contrast. I increased the contrast slightly to expose the highlights more and to lighten the shadows slightly. I did this because the colour scheme of my magazine is red, white and black so the shadows and highlights of this image reflects it.

After increasing the exposure I began to adjust the colour of the subject. This was because the lighting of the soft box has made him look washed out and pale, therefore I began to add red/orange hue to make him looker warmer and vibrant. I did this due to the connotations of warm colours being aggressiveness and violence therefore illustrating his character of the indie rock genre further.

When I increased the red/ orange hue it become too dark so I used the vibrance tool to give him more colour.

The last piece of editing I did was by increasing the vibrance and decreasing the saturation to balance out the colour within his face so he doesn’t look too orange and over edited. I also used the brush tool with Gaussian blur to fade away the creases in the back drop giving me a smooth background to work with.
