Porter Edwin porter was a film pioneer he was a director, producer and cinematographer. Altogether he made 250 films. His most famous The Great Train Robbery (1903). He discovered different techniques such as a close up.

MolviolaThe molviola started around 1924, it was important for editing films until the 1960s. Iwan serruier invented it for editing. The way it works is the editors of the film will be able to look at shots they created in their cutting rooms, to see where to cut the shot. Next the editor would have to place the shots in order of what they like, then the machine would reel and glue them together.

Continuity editing This method is commonly used in all movies nowadays, but it first was invented by Ewin Porter, It was used in The great train robbery to edit the shots. It looked simple. But back then it was really advance and technical.Continuity editing created a smooth motion picture and it continues all the scenes together smoothly There are techniques use within continuity editing such as Establishing shot, Crosscutting and shot reverse shot. These shots are still used in films today

Analysis in The great train robbery

An Example of continuity editing is when the train is moving and they connect the scenes together and show them inside the train.

Another example of continuity editing is at the end scene where there is a close up of the train thief. He done this so the audience find out who it was at the end

They used a establishing shot here to show the train and where they are

Then the cut to the thief's robbing the train which flowed very well in the film and is a good example of continuity
