Why Stainless Steel

Corrosion occurs for a variety of reasons. With other materials or finishes, such as yellow zinc dichromate, it can result from pollution in the air, a scratched surface or from the presence of moisture or salt - particularly in coastal regions. Stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance from these in natural atmospheric conditions. It also provides an extra measure of protection from pitting and staining in more demanding locations such as industrial sites, areas of urban pollution and coastal regions.

We design all our handles, cylinders, hinges and locking systems to be the best they can be. With the finest design, most precise machining and the highest quality materials through and through so they endure endless use beautifully.

To help you determine which multipoint locking system would be right for your application, we will need you to answer the following questions:

1. Is your door aluminum, wood, fiberglass or UPVC?

2. If wood, is it prime or clad?3. If UPVC, who’s profile system?4. If wood, is the door flush or rebated?5. Is the door inswing or outswing?6. Is the door French (double) or single swing?7. Do you want a multipoint or single point

system?8. What is the door thickness?9. What is the panel height from bottom of door

panel?10. What is the lock stile width or what backset

do you need? 35mm, 45mm, 60mm or 70mm? 11. What deadbolt throw size do you want?

14mm (0.55) or 25.4mm (1.00)?12. What type of locking system are you intested

Door handing is always determined from the exterior. When hinges are on the left, the door is LH; when hinges are on the right, door is RH.Inswing or outswing does not determine handing.

Inactive Assembly InstructionsWe recommend assembly of the inactive gear in

the activated (locked) position. To be consistent in the operation and assembly, you should assemble the gear operator as follows:

Install main gear body assembly into stile using either method:

a. If using a jig to center the gear on the handle hole, slide into place and screw down.

b. If aligning off the panel bottom, extend the bottom shootbolt mechanism all the way out. Place the gear against the bottom extension, then screw the gear in place.

1. Operate and extend the shootbolt mechanism with the handle. Then lock the thumb-turn mechanism (cylinder). The thumb-turn mechanism will spin freely after it hits the locking point. If the thumb-turn mechanism feels as though it has hit the locking point but does not spin freely, the mechanism is not working properly.

2. Connect the drive rail of the bottom extension to the connector of the main gear. Make sure the teeth are fully engaged (seated into the connector). The shootbolts should extend 3/4" or 1" (model options). Screw the bottom extension to the stile. Repeat this to the top extension.

Note: Tolerance – There is an allowance of up to 1/8" (3mm) between the gear and extensions.

3. Finish screwing the inactive system onto the stile. Be sure you install screws into the holes that will not be filled when the astragal is applied.

4. Unlock the thumb-turn mechanism. Operate the handle set to retract and extend the shootbolts. The shootbolt mechanisms should operate freely.

5. Now try to operate the shootbolts while the lock is engaged. The shootbolts should not retract.

Glossary

Active Panel

When a door is referred to as “active” it means it is the primary functioning door usually in a pair of French doors. This will be the door that opens first.

Astragal

Decorative center section of wood or other material that is attached to the inactive panel and serves as a jamb.

Auto Release Roller

Activates the multipoint to engage the locking point into the frame of the door.

Auto Release Striker

The strike in the frame of the door which catches the auto release pin after the multipoint is activated.

Backset

Distance from the surface of the lock faceplate to the center of the handle hole. This distance establishes where the handle will be mounted to the face of the door. The HLS multipoint system uses a 35mm (1 3/8") or a standard 45mm (1 3/4") backset as well as 60mm (2.36) and 70mm (2.76) backset.

Deadbolt

The center locking point on the door. The deadbolt is engaged by turning the cylinder knob or engaging it with a key.

Driverail

The vertical moving mechanism of multipoint hardware behind the faceplate. The driverail carries the motion from the gear to the multipoints to activate them. This can be achieved through a single part or through multiple parts hooked together such as extensions and corner drives. The driverail is hidden by the faceplate.

Engage

A term used to describe the activating of the multipoint hardware. When the multipoints have been activated into position, the system is said to be engaged.

Eurogroove

Routed groove in the edge of the door, usually centered, but may be offset to one side in which the drive rail and faceplate of the multipoint hardware are mounted.

Extension

Sections of operating drive rail that can be attached to the gear to reach the needed height of a door.

Faceplate

Flat piece of metal that covers the drive rail and multipoints along the entire length of the door sitting flush with the edge.

Flushbolt

A bolt mortised into a door that holds the door closed when the bolt is projected into the head or sill of the doorframe.

Frame

The outer casing of a door which mounts directly into the rough opening of a wall.

Gear

Main functioning body of multipoint hardware containing hub for handle operation and deadbolt (on active gear).

Handle Height

The distance from the bottom of the door panel to the center of the hande hole.

Inactive Panel

When a door is referred to as “inactive” it means it is the secondary functioning door in a pair of French doors. This door can only be opened after the “active” panel has been opened.

Jamb

See frame.

Latch

The catch for the door.

Lockcase

The main body of the multipoint gear.

Machine Screw

Screw that is used with a tapped hole.

Mishandling Device

Prevents locking points from accidentally firing and potentially damaging door trim.

Mortise

Edge pocket for lockcase or additional locking points.

Mortise Lock

Any hardware containing a gearbox that requires pocket routing in the edge of a door in order to be mounted or installed.

Glossary

Multipoint Hardware

Any hardware that has multiple locking points which simultaneously lock into place through the action of a continuous travel drive rail activated by a handle.

Profile

A UPVC or aluminum extrusion used in door manufacturing. The shape/style of each extrusion differs between each extruder and therefore requires different hardware—particularly hinges and strike plates.

Roller

Small cylindrical cam locking point that is connected to the drive rail and secures inside a strike plate by an upward and downward movement along the surface of the faceplate.

Roundbolt

Bullet shaped locking point that retracts flush inside the faceplate until engaged, at which point it deadbolts the door inside a strike plate. No upward or downward movement. This version requires additional mortising for the roundbolt lockcases.

Screw Support

A support on the backside of the gear for the screws which helps prevent flexing or bending of the gear once installed in the edge of the door.

Shootbolt

Arrow shaped locking point that retracts into the eurogroove until engaged, at which point it extends out and locks into strike plates in the head and sill of the door.

Sill

Bottom portion of a door that rests on the foundation and supports the frame structure.

Single Point

A mortise lock consisting of a latch and deadbolt only.

Stile

Upright or vertical piece of the framework of a wood flush door.

Strike Plates

Plates that the locking points (roller, tongue, round bolt, deadbolt or latch) lock into. Different strike plates are required for different versions of locking points and profile designs.

Threshold

The horizontal bottom portion of the door frame, also called the sill.

Throw

Distance a locking point travels from surface of faceplate to point of full extension.

Tongue

Triangular shaped locking point that retracts flush inside the faceplate until engaged, at which point it extends out to lock into a strike plate.

Wood Screw

Screw with a tapered shaft that drills its own hole into the wood.

Limited Lifetime Finish Warranty

The HLS9000 manufactured and sold by HOPPE North America, Inc. (the “Product”) is warranted against red rust for the life of the Product as long as the Product is owned by the original purchaser and used in the residence in which it was originally installed (proof of original purchase required). This Warranty does not cover discoloration on finishes if 300 series Stainless Steel Screws are not used. This Warranty does not cover any labor charges to remove and/or reinstall a Product. This Warranty excludes a Product: (1) with scratches or abrasions, (2) that has been altered, improperly installed, abused and/or misused, (3) used in commercial applications, (4) that has been damaged by acts of nature or (5) that has undergone normal wear and tear. This Warranty is expressly limited to persons or entities that purchase the Products for resale or use in their ordinary course of business.

THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE, AND HOPPE NORTH AMERICA, INC. MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, WITH RESPECT TO A PRODUCT. HOPPE NORTH AMERICA, INC. Terms & Conditions

TERMS AND CONDITIONS GOVERNING SALES

1. Governing Provisions. These Terms and Conditions Governing Sales (the “Agreement”) constitute an offer by HOPPE North America, Inc. ("Seller") to provide the goods described herein (the “Products”) to the buyer to which this offer is addressed (“Buyer”), subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein. Buyer may not modify, change, renounce or waive any term or condition hereof or any of Seller’s rights or remedies hereunder, unless Seller consents thereto in writing. Seller agrees to provide the Products to Buyer only on the terms of this Agreement, notwithstanding any language in Buyer’s purchase order, if one exists, or other writing or oral representation previously or hereafter received by Seller purporting to amend, modify or replace the terms of this Agreement with any different or additional terms or reciting that provision or delivery of the Products or any other action or inaction by Seller constitutes agreement or consent by Seller to such amendment, modification or replacement. SELLER'S AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE THE PRODUCTS IS EXPRESSLY CONDITIONED ON BUYER'S ASSENT TO ALL OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET FORTH HEREIN.

2. Acceptance. Buyer shall be deemed to have made an unqualified acceptance of this Agreement, on the earliest to occur of the following: (a) Seller’s receipt of a copy of this Agreement signed by Buyer; (b) Buyer’s payment of any amounts due under this Agreement; (c) Buyer’s receipt of the Products; or (d) any other event constituting acceptance under applicable law.

3. Cancellation or Modification. Buyer may not cancel or modify its order except upon terms accepted by Seller in a writing signed by Seller’s authorized officer. In the event of such cancellation or modification, Buyer shall compensate Seller for all costs and damages resulting therefrom, including, but not limited to, out-of-pocket expenses, lost profit, allocable overhead and all other incidental and consequential damages.

4. Taxes. Buyer shall pay any tax, duty, custom, inspection or testing fee or any other fee or charge imposed on, in connection with or measured by the transaction between Seller and Buyer in addition to the prices quoted or invoiced.

5. Schedules; Delay. All delivery dates hereunder are approximate. Seller shall not be liable to Buyer for delays in delivery due to state of war, riot, civil disorder, fire, strikes, work slow-downs, accidents, actions of government or civil authority, delay in transportation, energy failure, equipment breakdown, delay of suppliers, inability to obtain necessary labor, materials or manufacturing facilities, acts of God or any causes beyond the reasonable control of Seller. In the event of any such delay, Seller shall perform such parts of the work as Seller is capable of performing and, even if Buyer places all or any part of the work elsewhere, Seller shall be entitled to resume such work as soon as practicable. Buyer's exclusive remedy for such delays, and for Seller's inability to deliver for any reason, shall be rescission of the affected order.

6. Payment Terms. Payment terms are C.O.D. unless (a) Seller approves different terms based on a written credit or financing agreement submitted by Buyer or (b) Seller, in its sole discretion, requires payment in advance. Buyer shall pay interest on all past due amounts at the rate equal to the lower of 1.5% per month or the highest rate permitted by applicable law.

7. Rights Upon Default. If Buyer does not pay Seller any amount due Seller from Buyer under this Agreement or any other agreement when such amount is due or if Buyer defaults in the performance of any covenant or condition of this Agreement, Seller may, without liability to Buyer and without prejudice to Seller’s other lawful remedies (a) terminate this Agreement, (b) declare immediately due and payable all Buyer’s obligations to Seller, (c) change credit terms with respect to any further work or (d) suspend or discontinue any further work until Buyer pays all overdue amounts and Buyer deposits with Seller cash or security satisfactory to Seller covering further work. Seller’s foregoing rights shall be in addition to any other rights Seller may have and shall not prejudice any such right. Buyer agrees to reimburse Seller for all costs incurred by Seller in collecting any sums owed by Buyer to Seller.

8. Warranties and Remedy. See Finish Warranty or Lifetime Limited Mechanical Warranty supplied upon request

9. DISCLAIMER OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES. THE WARRANTY PROVIDED IS EXCLUSIVE, AND SELLER MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, WITH RESPECT TO A PRODUCT. SELLER HEREBY EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND/OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. ANY ORAL OR WRITTEN DESCRIPTION OF A PRODUCT IS FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF IDENTIFYING A PRODUCT AND SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY.

10. Delivery. The price quoted for the Products is F.O.B. Seller’s premises. Risk of loss for the Products passes to Buyer upon delivery. Title to the Products passes to Buyer upon Buyer’s payment in full for the Products. The parties hereby agree that this Agreement shall constitute the security agreement required by the Uniform Commercial Code (“UCC”) of the appropriate state. Buyer hereby grants Seller a security interest in the Products, wherever located, and all proceeds thereof, to secure Buyer’s payment in full for the Products. Buyer hereby authorizes Seller to execute any UCC financing statement, or any other document necessary or appropriate, to protect Seller’s security interest.

11. Governing Law. The internal laws of the State of Wisconsin shall govern the rights and obligations of Seller and Buyer under this Agreement.

12. Miscellaneous. Seller reserves the right to correct clerical or similar errors relating to price or any other term shown in this Agreement. Invalidity or unenforceability of any term or part of this Agreement shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the remainder of this Agreement. Failure of either party to insist, in any one or more instances, upon performance of any term, covenant or condition of this Agreement shall not be construed as a waiver or relinquishment of any right granted hereunder or the future performance of such term, covenant or condition.

13. FINAL WRITTEN EXPRESSION. THIS AGREEMENT CONSTITUTES A FINAL WRITTEN EXPRESSION OF THE TERMS BETWEEN SELLER AND BUYER AND IS A COMPLETE AND EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT OF THOSE TERMS. ANY NEGOTIATIONS OR UNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN SELLER AND BUYER WHICH ARE NOT CONTAINED IN THIS AGREEMENT HAVE NO FORCE OR EFFECT. ANY AND ALL PURCHASE ORDERS, CORRESPONDENCE OR STATEMENTS THAT CONFLICT WITH, DIFFER FROM OR MODIFY THIS AGREEMENT SHALL HAVE NO FORCE OR EFFECT.

14. ALL INFORMATION IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
