Inside Odyssey
“Growth continues for Odyssey; move within Matrix planned”
By Chris Bosak, NewsTimes Danbury, CT
“It was a year of growth in 2016 for Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corp. as it announced net revenue in-creased by 8 percent. In other words, 2016 was a typical year for the Danbury-based transportation company. Odyssey officials said the company has now experienced growth for 14 consecutive years. A major acquisition, maintaining a leader-ship position in key markets and expanding into new areas helped spur last year’s growth, Robert Shellman, president and CEO, said.
It is already shaping up to be an eventful year for Odyssey in 2017 as the company will move into a new loca-tion, is contemplating going public and is on pace for double-digit growth for the year. “Odyssey continues to offer its customers tailored supply chain solutions that yield savings and a competitive advantage,” Shellman said. “We continue to deliver strategic services that satisfy the increasing needs of our global client base, but we also identify market needs and innovate to solve customer and industry challenges.” He said solving complex transportation problems is a specialty for the company, which has clients such as BASF, Proctor & Gamble, Alcoa, Ford and GM. Odyssey offers “safe and on-time transportation solutions to large- and medium-sized companies,” Cosmo Alberico, Odyssey’s CFO and COO, said.
It operates mainly in the chemicals, metals and liquid food grade markets. It transports goods by land, air and ocean and has a freight network of more than $2 billion.”

Odyssey in the News!
Members of Odyssey attended the SMC³’s “JumpStart” conference in Atlanta, GA. “JumpStart” is a three-day supply chain event produced annually by SMC³ to facilitate deeper knowledge and collaboration between logistics and transportation professionals from carrier, shipper, logistics service provider and technology verticals.
The Picture to the right was taken and published by the American Journal of Transportation, and features Cynthia Sciongay from Odyssey Danbury and Kelly Butler from Odyssey Kennesaw.
Odyssey acquires AsepTrans
We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of AsepTrans, an asset-based food-grade ISO tank transporta-tion, tank cleaning and ISO tank depot services company. AsepTrans is the only aseptic ISO tank operator in the world and has been developing and refining the technology for more than 10 years (aseptic means free of any living organism).
AsepTrans will be merged into our existing Odyssey FoodTrans business. The acquisition will double both our fleet of intermodal ISO tanks dedicated to food-grade liquids, as well as our ISO tank chassis fleet. Also included in the acquisition are full-service tank cleaning facilities and ISO tank depot services in Clewiston, FL and Altamira, Mexi-co.
Aseptic transportation helps ensure product quality, and can be cost-effective, eliminating the need for shippers to have additional aseptic or pasteurization processing/storage facilities. Adding this unique service to our portfolio is consistent with Odyssey's strategy of growth through building and acquiring market leaders with significant barriers to entry.

Selling Power
Cross-Selling Success Story
The combination of Odyssey’s large team of experts and vast logistics network enables us to deliver thorough,
high value logistics solutions to our clients across any mode of transportation regardless of how complex the
customer’s situation may be. No matter what the request, One Odyssey can handle it.
This month, Odyssey customer GCP came to us with a need to secure some temporary Warehouse space for
storing excess inventory in or around Mt. Pleasant TN. Doug Postek, Odyssey Director of Facility Logistics,
knowing that we had facilities in Columbia, TN, reached out to Matt Brinkley, Vice President of Operations at
our Warehouse and Flatbed division. Doug and Matt were able to work together and secure 35 truckloads
worth of new warehouse business and help provide a customer with a solution.
This is a great example of the service we can provide to our clients when we understand the broad array of
services and capabilities ONE Odyssey creates.
“The sales department isn’t the whole company, but the whole company better be the sales department.” - Philip Kotler
Everyone at Odyssey regardless of department or title impacts the customer either directly or indirectly. This month, Wendi Lasko, at our Bulk Tank Trucking division, exemplified this idea. A valued bulk truck customer went our of his way to email Wendi’s manager to say, “I send a ridiculous number of emails daily and, while sometimes it’s easier just to call people, I suffer through the emails just so I don’t have to call the person on the other end of the computer. Wendi is an exception to that and I wanted to take a minute to point out her profes-sionalism and, most importantly, her personality. It’s amazing how just a few seconds of joking can lighten the mood of the day.”
Even the small things impact a way our customers view Odyssey and its business units. Great job Wendi!

The below graphic gives a snapshot of the current VSA (Vessel Sharing Agreement) structure across the ocean carrier community as well
as what will become of the carrier alliances in April of this year. There may be some minor adjustments to the below but essentially these
will be the major VSA’s going forward as of April 1, 2017:
What to Expect?
David Arsenault, the former CEO of Hyundai Merchant Marine, has warned “We’ve seen alliances get reshuffled in the past, but never
have we seen all of those alliances kick off with a shotgun start at one time.” Shippers and consumers of ocean containership products
should be aware that a restructuring of this magnitude results is a number of new or vastly expanded relationships among carriers and
between carriers and terminals that could bring about a variety of challenges in the supply chain during this transition period. Potential
challenges include but are not limited to:
Delays in both landside and high seas operations
Terminal changes at ports around the world as the ocean carriers determine which ports and terminals the ships in the new
rotations will call at.
Congestion at key container ports around the world.
Negotiations with shore-side labor may evolve as new terminal leases and berthing contracts are negotiated and devel-
oped.
Chassis availability issues, mainly in North America.
Changes with rail cutoffs (upstream), again mainly in North America
How to prepare for the potential challenges?
Overall the keys to overcoming these challenges will be to:
Communicate openly with overseas trading partners about the upcoming change in carrier alliances
Build some excess lead time into your supply chain
Consider advancing production and shipping orders ahead of the new VSA launch date
Consider having safety stock in key regions or facilities
Maintain a diverse ocean carrier mix to support your business
