Edition No. 44 October 2018 Welcome to the autumn 2018 edition of Trinity News. Since our last edition in the spring much has happened in parish life. However, the most notable event was the tragic sudden death of Fr. Eoin Mc Crystal. He was just 53 years of age. My last meeting with him was on Monday 25th June when he came back to the parish to attend the turning of the sod and blessing of the foundation for St. Francis of Assisi school’s new permanent home. Fr. Eoin had been instrumental in setting up St. Francis during his time here as he seen the need grow in Belmayne for a new school, so it was fitting that he came to be part of this significant event in the next phase of its development. His sudden passing is a tremendous loss to his family, parishioners here in Holy Trinity and St. Pauls, his new parishioners in Lusk and the Dublin Archdiocese. May he rest in peace. Having arrived here in October 2017 to pursue studies at Dublin City University Fr. Dominic and Fr. Ubaldo have now returned to Uganda in the last week. During their time here in Holy Trinity and in St. Paul’s they made many friends and enjoyed their experience of Ireland and the Irish church. I wish to take this opportunity to thank them for all their support and work during their time among us. We wish them all the best in their future study and priestly ministry. With their moving on, Fr. Paddy Boyle who has been acting as Administrator of St. Benedict’s and St. Monica’s has been asked by Archbishop Martin to assist us here once again in the Holy Trinity / St. Pauls parish grouping. I will remain as the Moderator of both parishes. In the last two weeks our Sacramental programme has gotten underway. We have met with parents of girls and boys who are preparing for First Communion and Confirmation in 2019. The programme is designed to help parents make their contribution at home and help their children prepare for their special day. We look forward as a community of Faith to gathering with them each week as we all prepare for these special days in the life of their family and our Parish. In November we have our annual Mass of Remembrance on Friday 2nd at 7.30 p.m. The families of all parishioners who have been buried from Holy Trinity church are contacted and invited to attend this important event. Of course, everyone is welcome to come along and remember their own loved ones who have gone home to the Lord in years past. The 10am mass on the First Friday of each month is still offered for all those who are on the November Dead list. We continue to be challenged with the reduction in number of priests in both parishes and the Dublin archdiocese. Indeed, parishes and diocese’s countrywide are also struggling with this reality as time passes. I am grateful for the support, understanding and encouragement from all parishioners, councils and groups in this continually developing reality we find ourselves in. Fr. Gerry PREPARING FOR SACRAMENTS Our Confirmation & First Holy Communion Programmes for 2018/2019 are underway following the respective meetings with parents / guardians in September & October. We welcome into our Christian community those Baptised since our last edition

BAPTISMCongratulations to all those parents who made the decision to have their child Baptised as a member of our Faith Community. The Parish Baptism Team, are committed lay parishioners, religious sisters and the priests of the parish and want to welcome you and your child among us. Baptism is often called the “Gateway Sacrament” because this is the first of all the Sacraments and the other six can only be received after you are baptised.

Scoil Cholmcille Senior National SchoolWe went on our sponsored walk around Donaghmede, past The Donaghmede shopping centre and past the Donahies Secondary School. On the walk we were allowed to talk to our friends and we had some pictures taken of us. The walk was really fun, and I really enjoyed participating in the sponsored walk with my class and my school. It also felt good raising money for my school. I think we have set a great example to everyone. It was great to participate in a walk through our local community.Charlie Gigg, 6th class.

We were delighted to refurbish classrooms over the Summer Break, purchasing new furniture and interactive panels.

GAA Neil from Trinity Gaels has been teaching us GAA since Junior Infants. It is a lot of fun. Neil has taught us how to hand pass and kick by playing lots of different games. When the weather is good we play GAA outside but if it’s raining we play in our school hall. We play games in teams and sometimes we play matches. It is so fun.Georgia Cullen 5th Class.

Holy Trinity Senior National SchoolBack to School by Maebh Ní Bhranagáin and Katie Behan – 6th class

We’re finally back in school after a long Summer and this report will fill you in on some of the things we’ve gotten up to.

During European Sports Week we ran laps of the yard and covered distances to various European landmarks. Our class ran the distance from Dublin to the Eiffel Tower! We did lots of other fun exercises to keep us fit and healthy and at the end of the week we had our annual teachers versus pupils soccer match. Disappointingly, it was a draw but it was great fun.

During Healthy Eating Week we had various activities taking place. We tried lots of healthy food and got some new and interesting recipes demonstrated to us by Ms Woods and Ms Heffernan.

During Parents Morning the parents of our school were invited in to say hello to our teachers and see our classes before having a nice hot cup of tea or coffee which I hop they enjoyed.

We have such a busy school with so much going on. Our boys and girls Gaelic teams are currently playing their leagues and doing well. Our basketball team is also playing some matches. Boxing, hip hop, athletics, yoga and swimming are just some of the other activities going on here.

We are in 6th class now and so much to look forward to. Our class has been invited to watch the Ireland soccer team training which should be fun. It’s also our Confirmation year and preparation has begun. The big day will be upon us before we know it. We can’t wait!

Well I hope you enjoyed this report and found some of the things we do here in Holy Trinity interesting. Thanks for reading.

Anam Cara is committed to continue offering all our services at no charge to bereaved parents and families throughout Ireland. Anam Cara’s main fundraising event for 2018 is our national bag pack, once again in conjunction with the lovely people at Dunnes Stores.

We are looking for some supportive volunteers who would  consider helping us for a couple of hours on Saturday 3rd November at Dunnes Stores, Donaghmede between 10am - 6pm.

While bag packing may not be the most exciting venture in the world, the income raised on these days helps us to keep our services up and running for those suffering the ultimate loss.

If who are interested in helping out, please email Pam at [email protected].
