Governor General’s Message

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Companion Knights for their confidence in my election and installation as your Governor General. I will do my very best and as I consider this office a great honor will work overtime to increase the visibility of your York Rite Sovereign College.

I would thank the Companion Knights in Toronto, Ontario for the work and effort that made the 55th General Assembly a Huge Success!! Through your efforts and untiring work, the assembly was a tremendous achievement of how things should be done to make all feel welcomed and to enjoy their stay in Canada.

2012 MEDAL OF HONOR PRESENTATION JUSTICE SANDRA DAY O’CONNOR

Pictured L to R: David G. Walker, Chancellor General; Reese L. Harrison, Jr., Treasurer General; Judith Harrison; Justice Sandra Day O’Connor; Joe R. Manning, Jr., Governor General (2012); Cindy Manning; and D. Allen Surratt, Secretary General

On July 13, 2012 the elected officers of your York Rite Sovereign College met personally with Justice O’Connor in the West Conference Room of the United States Supreme Court building. Justice O’Connor could not have been more receptive to our honor, gracious in her hospitality and sincere in her personal demeanor and conversation. She granted all the pictures we desired to take; inquired about the status of Masonry today; complimented and confirmed Masonry’s roll in society in the history of the United

States and spoke of her days as a Rainbow Girl in El Paso, Texas. After being most generous with her time, she arranged for us to take a VIP tour of the Supreme Court building.

Pictured above Joe R. Manning, Jr. Governor General (2012) presenting Sandra Day O’Connor with the Medal of Honor.

If we were to judge the success of a biennial Medal of Honor presentation by the level of recognition the recipient has in our society – coupled with the sincerity of appreciation by the recipient …. then this biennial presentation to Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was an absolute, total success.

The courtyard includes many renowned sculptures from the Chiurazzi Foundation and a bronze cast of Michelangelo's David. The Courtyard features two fountains—Fountain of Tortoises, one of three replicas from the Piazza

Mattei in Rome, and the Oceanus Fountain, copied from the 16th century original by Giovanni Bologna in Florence’s Boboli Gardens. The circus museum celebrates the American circus, its history, and its unique relationship to Sarasota. View colossal parade and baggage wagons, calliopes, costumes, posters, and lots of other circus memorabilia. Also on exhibition in the Circus Museum is the Wisconsin, the private Rail car of John and Mable Ringling built in 1905.
