ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2009 with an intake of 60
students. The department is supported by teaching staff members of varied experience and
specialisation. Our teaching faculties are members of various professional bodies such as IV, IE, IEEE
and ISTE. All laboratories in the department are well furnished with the state-of-art equipment and
software. The Department functions with the dual inputs of Industry and reputed academic bodies in
the state.
The Department actively promotes curriculum development activity by updating existing
courses, developing new courses and preparing resource material for teaching. It undertakes industrial
consultancy works as a part of its interaction with industry and also organizes seminars/symposia for
professional interaction. The department is also very active in conducting conferences, workshops,
short term seminars etc. The department has been constantly involved in a range of consultancy
projects. Visits to industries, construction sites and environmental field visits are arranged regularly to
impart technical education to the students more effectively.
Vision
To continue to excel national and international recognition through the impact of civil
engineering knowledge of our students and alumni to build better human society.
Mission
To produce smart civil engineers with basic knowledge on science and engineering to compete
the global challenges.
To make the department to excel in the thrust areas of structural engineering and
environmental engineering research.
To work with the society to identify the problems faced and providing solutions through
consultancy services.
To create, disseminate and integrate knowledge of engineering in the minds of fresh graduates
to face the future technological challenges.

ONE DAY SEMINAR
One day seminar on the topic “5D BIM” was organized for second year students on
19.12.2019 with invited chief guest Er. M. Maheswaran, Senior Engineer, Business support, CADD
centre, Chennai. His interaction with our third year students helped our students to gain knowledge on
“5D BIM” and its practical design implementation in real time projects. The session was very
interactive and students were exposed to practical design challenges possible to occur in construction
projects.

GUEST LECTURE
A Guest Lecture on “CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AND ITS OPPORTUNITIES
IN FIELD” was arranged for Final year students on 10.01.2020 at Conference Hall IV. The guest
speaker Er. V.Sriraman, Founder & CEO, Prayojana Institute, Chennai shared his knowledge
regarding construction management and its real time opportunities for budding engineers in current
field scenario. We can say with confidence that the lecture helped the students to gain technical
knowledge in construction management and practical exposure real field situations prevailing for the
young engineers in this competitive world. The lecture has been planned as a part of the syllabus and
to throw lights on field conditions to our final year students.

SURVEY CAMP
The students of third year Civil Engineering went for Survey camp to Yercaud hills from
12.02.2020 to 15.02.2020 as a part of their curriculum. The survey camp provides necessary
foundation for civil engineers by providing an opportunity to the students to improve their theoretical
and practical knowledge in engineering surveying under actual field conditions. It enhanced the
students performance by means of developing self-confidence so that he/she can do work
independently by solving field problems during survey works.

FIELD VISIT
The Students of Second year Civil Engineering went for one day Field Visit on 17.02.2020 to
VRG Blue Metals, Paramathy, Karur during the first half day and the second half day visited VRG
RMC Plant, Velampalayam, Karur. The visit covered the basic operations of the stone aggregate
quarrying, crushing, equipments involved and step by step procedure involved in the manufacturing of
Ready Mix Concrete (RMC), their testing and other facilities available in RMC plant. This visit helped
students to gain practical exposure towards the operations and functions carried out in fields of blue
metals and RMC plant. Students eagerly visited the industry and gained knowledge with the real time
exposure to stone aggregates and Ready mix concrete being used widely in construction works which
includes as a part of their Curriculum.
