STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR DIE SINKING EDM MACHINE

Before operating the machine

1) Make sure the machine is in good condition.

2) Safety apparel such as safety shoes must be worn.

3) Ensure personal safety as short hair, short sleeved dresses, trousers and goggle practiced.

Besides the jewelry items such as rings, watches, bracelets and necklaces must be removed

to avoid unwanted accidents.

4) Make sure the button "emergency stop" is known by the students.

5) Warning signs such as electric shock and slips easily observed.

6) Know how to operate the machine.

7) Ensure that the equipment used was taken out and placed on the table.

During operating the machine

1) While operating the machine make sure do not touch the water in the tank and also the

electrodes because of these objects have charges that are dangerous.

2) Dangerous parts such as machining is carried out, it should be covered with a protective

device and also on the switch box closed protective device that is not current.

3) Safety switches and interlock switches on the cover of the water tank to operate but when

opened it will remain stopped.

4) Grounding on the machine is in perfect condition so as to avoid any electric shock.

5) If there are any accidents or damage to the machine, please report it to the instructor

immediately.

6) Do not joking when running the machine.

7) Never leave the machine unattended.

8) Check the fuse on the machine or on the main switch whether it can withstand the overload

because overloading may cause fire.

After operating the machine

1) Make sure the water in the tank has been drained before the workpiece is removed from the

machine because the water in the tank may produce hazardous charges.

2) During take off workpiece make sure sharp corners on the workpiece was filed first.

3) Turned off the machine.

4) Clean the machine with a clean cloth and dry the water tank.

5) Tools that have been used are placed back in their original positions.

6) While removing the electrodes from the machine, make sure the electrode is held or coated

well before it was released.

7) If there is a coolant that spills on the floor, wipe it immediately.
