December in Downtown Edmond is usually a bustle with many Christmas activities, but specifically the annual Edmond Electric Lights Parade. This year the snow storm of the year, and coldest weather on these dates since 1983, struck and the City of Edmond decided to cancel the parade all together.
Many residents in our social networks were really looking forward to this magical time and were very upset. I personally think the City did consider the liabilities regarding safety and did the right thing. And, yes. I was upset too, as it is one of THE most charming things about Edmond, until I visited the downtown area along with the rest of Edmond. This storm packed an icy punch and it would have been logistically impossible to run those floats without having them risk taking out the crowd in their wake on Saturday night with all of the ice under the snow.
Citizen’s Bank of Edmond delighted all, the Friday before the mini blizzard of 2013, by lighting up both of their locations with a colorful display adding to the already beautiful display put on by the Downtown Edmond Business Association. And, even with the icy snow storm, Citizen’s Bank also continued on with free Santa photos on Friday and Saturday!
In this issue, please share our 5th Annual Christmas Light Driving Guide, as we have removed some displays and added some that are new! And don’t forget to head over to our website to “Vote!” and cast your ballots for your favorite Edmond businesses for the 2014 EA Edmond’s Choice Polls that start the end of January 2014!
You still have a chance to head out to Downtown OKC for amazing activities such as the Snow tubing at the Ballpark and many other fun activities in Downtown and Bricktown! And do not forget to head over to see the Myriad Gardens displays & pop up shops, they are spectacular!
With this being the last issue of 2013, I’d like to thank every single reader, advertiser, and follower at Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for your support! As we are a small business here in Edmond, we appreciate the opportunity to be able to get out and bring you information around Edmond, coverage of Edmond Events, amazing stories from residents and help you get to know other small business owners who are proud of their businesses and the community connections they have made over the years. Edmond Active has grown this year and we are hoping you’ll continue to read, participate and tell your friends & family to follow throughout 2014!

Lighting The Way
This year the Downtown Business Association has made a big push to brighten up the downtown area for the holiday season. Leading the way is Citizens Bank of Edmond with their colorful display of lights at both of their downtown locations. Reminiscent of the Chesapeake display on Western, Citizens Bank used thousands of colored LED lights to adorn their trees with Christmas cheer. And their building on the corner of Broadway and First took a page from the holiday lights on Automobile Alley by covering it with ground-to-roof panels of colored lights. With the addition of all the new lights, Broadway looks fantastic!

BUY THE LABELAs the saying goes, “you cant judge a book by its cover.” But what
about wine? Can you judge a bottle of wine by its label? It’s just a
guess, but I’m going to go with, no.
Picking a bottle of wine just because you like the label probably
isn’t going to give you your best wine experience. However, that’s
not to say that all wines with novelty labels aren’t very good. Our
suggestion would be to ask one of the folks at Edmond Wine Shop —
that’s where we found all these cool labels—what their opinion is
on the wine you’re selecting. They are very knowledgeable and they
can help you make the right selection.
So, why all the novelty labels? The wine business is full of
independent vintner’s competing with corporate wineries to get your
business. But without the marketing budget of the big boys they
have to come up with creative ways to grab your attention and the
best way to do that is on their label. And it works too. We know of a
lot of people who buy their wine based on the label alone.

We can’t think of a better way to partake in some Holiday
Cheer than to join one of the Christmas themed painting
sessions at Paint Your Art Out, located at 10 S. Broadway
in downtown Edmond. Paint Your Art Out is the original
painting and entertainment studio. Their sessions, usually
led by local artist, Jay Tracy, are a total blast...especially
if you bring along a bottle of your favorite wine or other
adult beverage. To schedule your session go to www.
paintyourartout.net and check out the calendar. Happy
painting!

Christmas In Edmond
20 edmondactive.com
Christmas time in Edmond is always festive and beautiful. From the UCO campus to the lighted streets of downtown to the many neighborhoods that put up lights during this joyous time, Edmond is a sight to behold.
One of our favorite things to do during the holidays is drive around the city to look at all the beautiful lighting displays. It always lifts us up when we find those houses or additions that go the extra mile in celebrating Christmas. From those drives we have compiled our exclusive Christmas Light Driving map. We have done this map for the last 4 years and it’s always been a big hit. So enjoy the lights and the season and have a Merry Christmas!

XBox One
Much has changed in the gaming console world since the days Atari and Pong. Todays gaming consoles are a complete entertainment package. You can play against entire communities of gamers and communicate with them in real time. You can Skype with them, watch movies on them, connect to video providers like Hulu and Netflix. There is so much these gaming consoles can do that it really boggles the mind. The X BOX One is even voice activated and gesture activated. But all this technology comes at a hefty price tag, $499.00
Playstation 4
The debate of what gaming consol is best is not an easy argument to win. Both XBOX One and PS4 can accomplish the most of the same tasks. Where they differ is in the price tag and the games they offer. X BOX has exclusivity with 9 games, while PS has it with 4 games. The biggest difference is in the price; PS4 retails for &3.99.00 Vs. XBOX One’s $499.00 price.

iPhone 5C & 5S
The way iPhone 5c performs is instantly recognizable. That’s because it has the things people loved about iPhone 5 inside. The Apple-designed A6 chip delivers impressive performance and graphics. It’s incredibly energy efficient, so you can use your iPhone throughout the day without worrying about battery life.
iPhone 5s is the first 64‑bit smartphone. And iOS 7 was built specifically for 64‑bit architecture. iPhone 5 set a precedent, with an amazing amount of technology. iPhone 5s builds on that achievement with Touch ID—a fingerprint identity sensor. An A7 chip with 64-bit architecture. An even more impressive iSight camera. And ultrafast LTE wireless.
iPad Air
The new iPad Air is unbelievably thin and light. And yet it’s so much more powerful and capable. With the A7 chip, advanced wireless, and great apps for productivity and creativity—all beautifully integrated with iOS 7—iPad Air lets you do more than you ever imagined. In more places than you ever imagined.

iPad Mini
Any way you look at it, iPad mini is just incredible. And the stunning Retina display is only the beginning. With a new A7 chip, advanced wireless, and powerful apps — all beautifully integrated with iOS 7 — iPad mini with Retina display lets you do more than you ever imagined. Feature for feature, it’s identical to iPad Air in every way. Except for its super-portable, hold-it-in-one-hand, still-just-right mini size.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
The ultra-sleek Galaxy Note 10.1 with Transcend Display has more than four million pixels—2M more than HDTV. And with a pixel density of 299 PPI, colors are rendered much brighter and everything’s lifelike and clearer. Combined with Virtual Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, an incredible cinematic experience is available wherever you go.
The enhanced S Pen offers more ways to get things done. Jot down phone numbers, contact info, even text messages and Samsung’s handwriting-to-text engine automatically converts your notes to text.

4K TV
4K or Ultra HD TV is the next wave in high resulution television. It’s four times the resolution of 1080p and it has the ultra high price tag to go with it. The picture quality of a 4K TV is undeniably insane. However, the rest of the world has yet to catch up to the format. There currently isn’t enough content out there to justify buying a 4K TV just yet. By the time the filmmaking world is producing 4K content, the price for the TV will be more realistic.
