Aims of Universal Design• Ensure that all students thrive

and are making their way to becoming an “expert learner”– Expert learners- students

are insightful, are enthusiastic about learning

• Universal design for learning (UDL)- preparing learning experiences that are made to be universal so that everyone learns – Each child is given chance

to go on their own path

Principles of Universal Design• Presenting curriculum to students

– Multiple ways of teaching information so that all students can connect to the learning

• Acknowledging different ways of actions and expressions from students

– Students vary in demonstrating their knowledge

• Various ways students can become engaged in learning– Addressing all student’s needs in

the classroom

• Requires constant communication among teachers and administrators

– Make sure work and assessment is accountable

• Tries to reduce disabilities in the classrooms

– Therefore, more students will be successful in and outside of the classroom

– All students participating and interacting in the classroom
