How often do you use technology? How often do you see your parents use
technology? How did people communicate without
technology before? How do people communicate with technology
now?

According to…This presentation was adapted from Pew Research Center
Ideas, http://www.pewinternet.org/fact-sheets/mobile-technology-fact-sheet/.

Most of smart phone owners depend on their smartphones for internet access.
67% of cell owners find themselves checking their phone for messages, alerts, or calls– even when they don’t notice their phone ringing or vibrating.
Increase in Technology Use
This requires critical thinking.. Why do you think we depend on technology so
much nowadays? What are the advantages and disadvantages
of using technology? In what ways does technology help in
communication? Do you think teachers and parents should use
technology to communicate? Why or why not?

Use of emails Use of digital networks Internet sources/links Phone calls
Impact in Communication
For math homework or any type of
assignments, would you prefer handouts or online? Why?
If technology helps teachers and parents communicate faster, what shall we use? Why?
By using technology, do you think parents will be more involved? Why or why not?

Pie Charts
Advantages Summarize a large data
set in visual form Require minimal additional
explanation Be easily understood due
to widespread Size of the circle can be
made proportional to the total quantity it represents
Disadvantages Do not easily reveal
exact values Fail to reveal key
assumptions, causes, effects, or patterns
May be easily manipulated to yield false impressions

Bar Charts
Advantages Show each data category
in a frequency distribution Summarize a large data
set in visual form Estimate key values at a
glance Display relative numbers
or proportions of multiple categories
disadvantages Use only with discrete
data Limited space for
labeling with vertical bar graphs
May not be suited well for making predictions
Often requires additional written or verbal work
Sum it up!
What did you find? Explain why your method appears to be the
best Use pie chart or bar chart to make a
comparison Share what you have found to class
