Introducción:

Esta clase despierta gran expectativa en mí ya que las nuevas tecnologías y la educación

se entrelazan más y más. Como futuro profesor me gustaría dominar estos nuevos avances que

encierran software educativo tan magnífico que incrementan el rendimiento del docente

notablemente o aplicaciones en la red que incentivan el interés por una asignatura determinada.

Espero aprender todo lo que pueda, para en un futuro aplicar todos estos valiosos conocimientos

en formar a las nuevas generaciones.

Essay: History of Computers:

A computer is a machine that we can program to simplify our life in many ways; it is like

a copy of a human brain. A computer can execute a programmed list of commands and respond

to new instructions that it is given. The word computer was born in 1613, referring to a machine

or a people that carried out complex mathematics operations, or computations. Since them,

people have used the word computers with the same meaning until the middle of the 20th

century. 

The first modern digital computers were created in the 1940 by the US army. These

computer was not like the computers that we have today, it was big as an entire room, and if we

compare the speed to perform operations of the modern computer and this old computer, we will

notice how far we are from this beginning and how much computer scientist have been done

.This computer used to take hours to figured out complex mathematical operations and math

problems that a regular modern computer, such as laptop or any desktop would perform in a

seconds.

Back in the 1970s, the first personal computers were created. They were extremely

faster and more powerful than the old and big computers .In addition; they were design to

individual consumers, making it possible for many customers to use them for their personal

needs. In early 80s Steve Jobs created the first laptop computers that really make the different in

the history of this incredible machine because Steve reduced more the size of the computer and

at the same time he opened new door in the computer’s history.

By the mid-1990s, laptop computers capable of millions of calculations per second had

been developed. Today, nearly half of American homes have a desktop or a laptop computer for

different purpose and in addition, we have a new generation of computers, such as; the smart

phones and the table all of them were created in the early years of the 21th century by Steve Jobs

the genius that built Apple Corporation 30 years before. Futurists prognosticate that smart

phones, computer and table will continue to become smaller and more powerful and they will be

used in almost every facet of people’s lives and for sure, computers will change our way of

living forever.

Summary: 

Those websites talk about the history of computers, from the first computer to the

computers that we have today. Each website features illustrated descriptions of significant

innovations in software technology and hardware, as well as milestones in areas such as

commercial applications and artificial intelligence. In addition, I learned about the basic

advanced of computer concepts and about components of computer system, such as: microchips

and different microelectronics components that make the different in this field. Finally, I learned

about the association and the advancement of computing in education and it was pretty useful

because as future teacher I will use those new technologies, such as: educational software like

blackboard and verb ware in class to improve the quality of education of my future students.

En estos website se define la función de software como el equipamiento lógico o soporte

lógico de un sistema informático. El mismo está formado por el conjunto de los componentes

necesarios que son necesarios para la realización de tareas específica. También, se definen el

concepto de sistema operativo y los diferentes tipos de sistemas tales como Windows o Ms-2.

Además, podemos encontrar en estos links , como son utilizados la computadoras para el

desarrollo de la actividad educativa. Las mismas son una herramienta superútil para los maestros

debido a que facilitan mucho el trabajo a los mismos, como resultado atraen al alumno ya que

encierran una enorme carga didáctica. Finalmente en estos website, se hablan sobre el concepto

de software educativo que es el software que está diseñado específicamente para la enseñanza,

además se definen que los mismos tienen la misión de desarrollar ciertas habilidades cognitivas

en los alumnos

Journal:

During workshop number one, I felt great because I was learning a lot of new thing that I

did not imagine that were there before that class. It was like a new window that was there, but I

did not notice before. I’m pretty happy because I like computers and things related with

technologies, and that’s way we are in this class to learn how to combine educations and new

technologies such as; educational software.

I will apply all of the new things that I learn with my future students, because technology

and education are in the same packet today, so we have to be prepared for the new generation

that is growing up with the new technologies that we have today. That is way we must learn, as

much as; we can about educational software, and in general all about the technology and

education. In this class we talked about the about the history of computers, from the first

computer to the computers that we have today, and also we commented about educational

software like Blackboard and Worldly to improve the quality of education of my future students.

It was a great class without doubt.

Essay: Computer Uses:

I cannot imagine my life without my smart phone or my laptop computer .It is really hard

to figure things out without this amazing machine. Computers are essential to our modern

society; there are a lot of things that come to my mind when talking about how computers help

us in our daily life, such as: internet applications like Facebook and Twitter.

Another example could be the field of Mathematics; there are a lot of mathematical

operations that are so complex that only top computers are capable of calculating. This is why

computers became our best tool in sciences, because the unimaginable amount of incredible

operations that can be performed such as: calculations of temperature of the Sun or the distant

between Saturn and Jupiter.

Back in the days, our only computer was our brain which is the inspirational thing to

create this incredible machine. Since the computer was created we can say that our life was never

the same again and this event has speeded up our way of living in a lot of ways(Steve Jobs

2002).

Today computes has millions of applications such as in educational programs,

composing music, or in fields like medicine. In conclusion, the computer has changed the way of

thinking and living forever for our best.

Essay: Advantages of Software:

Computer software is the term that we use to define a computer programs. Software help

produce fast, accurate estimates as well as , help musicians to create knew melodies ,or scientist

to figured out knew complex mathematical operation and in general software help us to operate

and simplify the computers uses.

The big companies such as: Microsoft or Apple invest more than 50% of their budgets

to develop new software that day by day are better and better .Today ,every computer have an

open software, be it, inventory, telecommunication systems, personal productivity applications,

accounting, contact management and operating systems amongst others.

Another type of software is the Operating system software. Before this incredible

machine can work with application software, such as an office- package or game like last one

version of the famous video game Mortal combat, the computer must run the instructions

through the operating system software. That contains many built-in instructions, so that any

piece of application software does not have to repeat simple commands, like telling the computer

how to print documents out.

Finally, software will impact people live for sure. In addition, as a teacher we must be

update with new software because education and technology are together today’s day.

Journal:

During workshop number two, I felt a litter bit lost because I was learning a lot of new

things, as a result; I did not understand some new concepts and applications. Our teacher talked

about how to post the homework correctly and how to use all of those new things that She has

taught in this class such as; the definition of software ,and the evolution of the operational

systems. In addition; we studied the operational systems one by one, for example: we defined the

Ms-2, window 95, Window Vista, etc...

I believe that all of this knowledge will be a powerful tool for me. As a future teacher, for sure;

we will make the different when we apply all of these new technologies. In this class we also

talked about computers in education and how to use all of those new things to perform better

classes.

Ensayo: Software Educativos Y Sus Aplicaciones:

En el mundo de la computación se le llama software al equipamiento lógico o soporte

lógico de un sistema informático. El mismo está formado por el conjunto de los componentes

necesarios que son necesarios para la realización de tareas específica.

Existe muchos software que son utilizados para el desarrollo de la actividad educativa.

Los mismos son una herramienta superútil para los maestros debido a que facilitan mucho el

trabajo a los mismos, condensan y atraen al alumno ya que encierran una enorme carga

didáctica. Se define como software educativo al que está diseñado específicamente para la

enseñanza, y además el mismo tiene la misión de desarrollar de ciertas habilidades cognitivas.

Verbos, es un software educativo diseñado para el entorno de ventanas KDE. Consiste en

un programa educativo que permite practicar la conjugación de verbos en el idioma Español. El

programa contiene una sin números de verbos. Donde el alumno puede elegir un verbo de entre

10000 verbos para practicar la conjugación de los mismos en los diferentes tiempos

gramaticales. El programa cuenta con un reloj que le va dando una idea al estudiante del tiempo

transcurrido y de cuanto le falta, en caso de no terminar en el tiempo requerido perdería y su

puntuación seria cada vez menor (edu.kde.org/kverboos) .

Este programa podría utilizarse o insertarse en el currículo para la enseñanza del español

para 5to grado. Ayudaría mucho al maestro, ya que en este nivel se requiere la redacción de

oraciones compuestas en donde la conjugación de las formas verbales correctamente es

imprescindible.Este estándar pertenece al quinto grado en el estado asociado de Puerto Rico

Comunicación escrita. CE.5.13 Utiliza apropiada y consistentemente los tiempos verbales

perfectos tales como el presente y el futuro perfectos.

Journal:

During workshop three we learnt a lot of new things about the different part of the

computers such as: the computer hardware,, this part is the opposite of software and it has a lot

of important functions in the computer. We also talked about the computer ports and the Storage

system. I did not know anything about those computer’s components, but after the class I have a

better idea of this computer’s parts.

The last one part of the class was dedicated to one sector of the population that has

special needs. The handicapped populations have taken advantage of the new technologies. The

input and output devices made a big difference to people with disabilities by giving them a

better life, confidence, and the most important of all, quality of life. There are a lot of computers

types that have helped a lot of people with disabilities.

Unfortunately; there is a lot of people and policies that do not care too much about this

special population. That is way technologies like assistive technologies or adaptive technologies

have been specially developed to allow these differences, and as a society, we must fight and

support more laws that protect and help people with disabilities, more and more in order to create

a world with more justice. This class really touched my heart.

Essay: The Computer and Communication Types:

Computers were created in the 1940 by the US army. At the beginning this incredible

machine was controlled just by the US army and a few groups of Scientifics, but one became

public everything changed forever. Communications is one of the fields that computers have

affected constantly since computers become public (Bill Gates 2001).

Internet was discovered by The United Stated army 30 ago. In 1998 internet was allowed

to use in the United State of America. Even though it took many years to become public, that

was the beginning of a new era in the communication field. The internet is a powerful

communication tool that has been growing and spreading through the world like a powerful

tsunami (Steve Jobs 1999).

As a result, it has become without doubt the most important source of communication

and resource. Millions of people all over the world have access to internet and the majority of

companies have full access to surf the net. The internet has opened and allowed us new horizons

in ways we never dreamt before. Email, advertising on web pages, instant chat, video

conferencing and lastly social nets like Facebook and twitter have been affecting our lives in

ways that we haven’t imagine for the last 20 years.

All of those applications are used for communications purposes in our daily life. Let’s

talk about a couple of them. The first one is the Email. It is one of the most popular application

today, and consist in a in a message that you type in your computer that will be sent to another

user that already had a mail address.

The other application is Facebook; this is like a net of friends or people that are part of

this virtual society. You can send videos ,photos, messages and just people that you have added

to your friend list have the right to share your information ,photos and your daily post by a

public wall that connect all your Facebook friends.

In conclusion, these new technologist has been affecting our lives in a positive way in the

last few years. Today it is almost impossible to imagine the word communication without

computers and the internet.

Journal:

En este taller cuatro aprendimos acerca del navegador o browser. Básicamente la

profesora explico cómo funciona el internet y como la información navega en le web. De veras

fue fascinante es un mundo tan abstracto e increíble que mientras más conozco más me enamoro

de él. También hablamos sobre las comunicaciones y redes.

Aquí desglosamos los distintos tipos de comunicación tales como el correo electrónico y

el chat también hablamos e investigamos mediante trabajos en clase sobre el fenómeno boj y red

social. Hablamos sobre el impacto de Facebook, titear y en fin todas estas nuevas tecnologías

que afectan de seguro nuestra vida diarias de muchas maneras.

Y por último hablamos de las diferentes fórmulas de Excel, este programa es fascinante

especialmente para llevar estadísticas tablas matemáticas y cosas así. De la primera clase a esta

de veras he dado un salto de gigantes estoy súper contento porque todo esto es aplicable a la

educación y de seguro será un armas muy poderosa para mi desempeño como profesor.

Final Project:

Computer projects for the first grade.

Elementary Language Arts for the first grade:

Objective:

A word (other than a pronoun) used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things (common noun), or to name a particular one of these (proper noun).

Title of the concept:

Meaning of the word noun

Population to be addressed by the lesson:

Population to be addressed by the lesson is the ESL populations that are in the first grade in the elementals school in Miami Dade County. They represent the 34% of the student in this area and in some cities like Hialeah represent the 68% of the population that are taking lesson of language arts.

Lesson goal(s):

Teach students about words that we used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things, (common noun), or to name a particular one of these (proper noun).I will achieve that goal with different educational software to connect the students to new technologies and at the same time cover a “SSS” in the field of language arts for the first grade.

Sunshine State Standards Benchmark:

LA.1.1.6.6 The student will identify and sort words into conceptual categories.

Activities

Introductive activity:

The class will be performed in the computer lab to achieve the goals of the project.

I will keep the students attention with different questions, for example: If they know the name of the machine that has in front of them or if they know the name of the place that they are using to develop this project. Once the answer me those questions I will ask them if they know the name of the word, that they used to name things. Them I will tell them that they will learn the name of this word (noun), so I will prepare a “YouTube” video that will give them the definition of the word nouns and that will be new and fun for them and at the same time they will learn while are using educational software.

Development activity:

After that I will give them different pictures that have things, places, and actions they will choose the one that represents nouns. Here they have to recognize that nouns are used to name things; as a result; the action pictures have to be eliminated by them. After that I will create with them an “Animoto” to give them more examples of nouns, and let them the opportunity to interact with the new technologies. After that, I will create a “Voky” with the students that will talk about the personal nouns, them they will write in their paper 3 names of different places and 3 proper names to complete the activity.

Closing activity:

I will split the class in 2 groups, and we will do like a competitions. One group will tell me 6 nouns that represent things and the other group will tell me 6 nouns that are used to names proper names and places. The groups that finish before will have the possibility to see their work in “Worldly” (educational software); because I will public that with them and of course the other group will do that after the winners.

Assessment procedure

The next day, the student will bring me a list with 12 nouns that name things and a list of 12 that name places and proper names. If they do that correctly, is because they achieve the goal that was set for this project. Them, they will type that in their computers the 12 nouns, and I will print all of those works. After that I will hang up in large wall chart, titled “Nouns” and I will post them, for the whole course long and, as a result, they will remember what a noun is, just by looking the wall.

Final Test:

1. Que puede hacer un educador con las computadoras?

Las computadoras son una importante arma para el educador en el siglo XXI. Debido a

que las nuevas tecnologías facilitan grandemente el trabajo al profesor, si este conoce y sabe

cómo insertarlas en él la asignatura que está impartiendo correctamente. Hoy una gama de

“software” educativos sirve al profesor desde los niveles primarios hasta los niveles

universitarios. Podemos poner como ejemplo el uso de la computación para clases de idiomas.

Programas como Roseta Stone son usados en los laboratorios de computación para la

corrección de la pronunciación y gramática a los alumnos de enseñanza del inglés como segunda

lengua. Este es un ejemplo de cómo el profesor utiliza la computación y a sus vez esta afecta

positivamente la actividad educativa, quedando demostrado así, que la educación gano un gran

aliado en la computadora.

2. Consideraciones antes de usar computadoras en el salón de clases.

Un profesor antes de usar las computadoras en el salón de clases debe tener en cuenta

varias cosas. Como el sistema operativo en que están funcionando las maquinas; que puede ser

“Windows vista” o “Windows XP” o cualquier otro. También el maestro debe saber que marca

es la computadora debido a que no es lo mismo trabajar en el sistema operativo de “Mac” o a

trabar en el sistema operativo “Windows”, porque en dependencia de la marca de la

computadora, así será su diseño y funcionamiento.

Otra cosa y no menos importantes es conocer al pie de la letra el “Software” que se va a

utilizar en la clase. Por último, casi todo los “Software” educativos están conectado al internet

por lo que el profesor deberá conocer al pie de la letra como navegar, buscar y utilizar el internet

lo mejor posible.

3. Son realmente esenciales las computadoras en la enseñanza?

Creo que si ya que hoy en día, debido a que el mundo avanza a pasos agigantado de

mano de la tecnología no se puede separar una cosa de la otra. Se puede ensenar sin ayuda de la

computación sin duda alguna, así pasa en países subdesarrollados hoy en día, pero yo lo

considero un sacrilegio en toda la extensión de la palabra. Claro está hay países que no pueden

darse el lujo de proveer computadoras para sus estudiantes, pero es triste.

Las nuevas generaciones en los países desarrollados crecen con la computación y sus

avances y decir o afirmar que la computación no es fundamental para la enseñanza es algo sin

ningún tipo de base. En él los siglos pasados la computación no era trascendental ya que el

mundo funcionaba diferente; por lo que se consideraba una persona alfabetizada y educada, el

individuo que sabía leer, escribir y tenía algún tipo de entrenamiento específico. Pero en la

actualidad, un profesional, o un joven sin conocimientos básicos en computación es, como un

analfabeto en los siglos pasados. Concluyo, que debemos preocuparnos por enseñar a nuestros

futuros estudiantes lo más que podamos sobre este magnífico mundo de la computación.

4. Menciona una aplicación de programa para aplicarlo en el currículo.

El software educativo llamado “Worldly” se puede utilizar para incentivar a los

estudiantes en la clase de ESL. Este software educativo se puede incluir en el “Sunshine State

Standards Benchmark: LA.1.1.6.6 The student will identify and sort words into conceptual

categories” (Florida department of education 2011).

Ya que a la hora de que los estudiantes realicen sus actividades, pudiéramos pedirle que

escriban los sustantivos, que en este caso sería el tópico de esta clase; en vez de en un papel

como es la forma tradicional, lo pueden hacer en este programa y así estimularemos en el huso

de la computación, provocando el desarrollando, manejo de las nuevas tecnologías y lograremos

conjugación y la inserción de la computación en la educación primaria.

5. Menciona cinco referencias y lecturas recomendadas sobre el tema de clase "

Computadoras en la Educación".

En este curso las referencias más útiles en mi opinión fueron las siguientes:

Estas referencias sirvieron para profundizar mis conocimientos en el mundo de la

computación y la educación. De veras que me catapultaron a un mundo que nunca antes había

imaginado.

Yo recomendaría como lecturas fundamentales para cualquiera que se quisiera adentrar

en este mundo de la computación en la educación, dos artículos que leí para obtener información

sobre la historia de la computación y otro para el software educativo los leí en la Enciclopedia

británica escritos por (Brian Rosenberg 2004).

También otros dos artículos que recomendarían serian “La Computadora” el cual es un

increíble artículo para entender el impacto en la sociedad y en la educación de la computadora

(Profesor; Juan Carlos Espinoza 2005). Por último recomendaría otros dos documentos que

utilice para hacer la composición sobre la computación y las comunicaciones. El primero fue el

artículo que escribió sobre computación y educación “In Five years the best education will come

from The Web”( Bill Gates 2010) y el articulo que realmente me impresiono más fue: ‘What

higher education can learn from Steve Jobs” (Brian Rosegberg). Todos estos documentos

captaron me atención me dieron mucha información sobre este bello mundo, de veras los

recomiendo.

Conclusion:

Esta es una de las clases más fantásticas que yo he tomado ya que me abrió el portal hacia

un mundo poco conocido por mí. Es increíble cuanto aprendí en tan poco tiempo. Me sorprende

que tantas maneras existen de conjugar las nuevas tecnologías con la educación. Sin duda este

siglo será el siglo de la educación computarizada y como consecuencia debo estar preparado.
