WINE PRODUCERS COMPETITION — DEPARTMENT G

Purpose1. Promote agriculture by recognizing the wine industry as a vital

agricultural commodity in our region. 2. Offer meaningful competition between winemakers to encour-

age high quality practices in both amateur and commercial wine production.

PREMIUMS ALLOTTED: $593

Guidelines and rules1. Only ages 19 and older may enter in this department.2. Only wines made from at least 75 percent N.C. fruit are eligible for

competition.3. Fruits/juices must be home prepared. Wines from concentrates

or kits are ineligible4. Wines should be in 750 ml or 350 ml corked or capped bottles.5. All bottles must be corked properly using a commercial corking

devise. The Cleveland County Cooperative Extension office has a com-mercial bottle corker which may be used free of charge.

6. Grape or fruit variety must be listed on entry form.7. Only one entry per category per entrant is allowed.8. Wine bottles labels are not judged. You must, however, have a

label with the type of wine on the bottle.9. Vinifera refers to type of grape (ex: Chardonnay, Cabernet, Franc

and Merlot).10. Additional information available at Cleveland County Coopera-

tive Extension – 704 482 436511. All entries must be produced by the individual or business enter-

ing the item(s).

12. Each division may have one Best of Show award which includesa Rosette and $25 premium.

13. Judges evaluate wine on color, clarity, bouquet, flavor and overall presentation.

Over 1600 volunteers around the world donate their time to produce shift dresses of various sizes (made according to specific guidelines) that allow continued use as the girl grows. This nonprofit organization partners with The Rag Bag to involve local citizens in producing the dresses. INDIVIDUAL/GROUP EXHIBITION PROJECTS1. The 4-H display should be prepared on 22”x

28” poster board and displayed horizontally with a stiff backing (paneling, plywood, foam board, cor-rugated cardboard, and not over 1/2” thick).

2. Or on a tri-fold board no larger than 36” in height and 48” width. Display board may be any color that is suitable for the project.

3. The entire poster/tri-fold should be covered with clear plastic to protect against humidity.

4. Copyrighted characters or patented materials are not acceptable unless directly related to project topic. Copyrighted/patented materials must be la-beled and cited.

5. Labels should be used to explain the project, but personal name should not be visible to the judges.

4-H “SCARECROW” CLUB DISPLAY

PurposeRecognize that 4-H is a valuable leadership program for youth

in our region.

PREMIUMS ALLOTTED: $700

Guidelines and rules1. Only Cleveland County 4-H clubs are eligible for this

department.2. All entries must be produced by the club entering the display

since the most recent (previous) fair.3. Only one entry per category per club is allowed.4. Entries must also meet standards established for specific

division(s) and class(es).5. “Scarecrows” may range in height from 5–6 feet, but may not

exceed 6 feet. 6. Each club will be allotted a 4 square foot space in which to

display their scarecrow, club sign and any accompanying items.7. Cleveland County Fair will provide the display poles to attach

the scarecrow in an upright position.8. Scarecrow must be “dressed” to represent the club focus/

Cleveland County currently has seven (7) active 4-H clubs.
