The Beginning…
Started in July, 1998 with 2 children of domestic help Grew to 12 & we moved to Ambedkar Vihar
in December,1999
Our first bunch of kids
Happy… Excited…Loving… and yearning for more
These faces made us believe in them and hang in there
despite all problems
Quiet a few in the picture are in Class IX and above now
Working from withinRented rooms, regular classes, committed teachers and
volunteers helped us earn parents trust & confidence
10 years in Ambedkar Vihar – Our first centre
Our first group of children mainstreamed into formal schools are in Class IX today.

NFE Programme – Preparing for mainstream

Admission to mainstream
• After Class V, children are mainstreamed to a CBSE school.
• Schools carefully selected by Vidya & Child Board of Trustees
• Admission costs shared jointly with the parents
• Vidya & Child teachers attend all school PTM’s to keep abreast

ASSP – Academic Programme• Child spends 4 hours
everyday after school
• Academic support supplements school education
• Teachers provide the necessary emotional support to keep them motivated
• Helps identify the creative talent within and channelise strengths towards a suitable career path
Life Skills Programme
All children Class II and above attend Life Skills classes
Topics range from gender issues, eve teasing, hygiene issues, physical, mental & emotional health.
A topic is chosen which culminates into a workshop, nukkad natak or some initiative which involves the community at large.
Volunteer Programme
• Volunteers are an integral part of Vidya & Child.
• They are employees of Cadence, HCL, Mentor Graphics etc…
• They help strengthen their academic concepts and provide morale support too.
• They are ‘real-life’ role models for our children.
• Children hold them in high esteem and look up to them for guidance
The Parent Interaction ProgrammeA very active Parents Programme at Vidya & Child -
• gives feedback through regular PTM’s.
• helps them visualise their child’s future
• seeks more support & involvement in their child’s education
• organises health camps • discusses gender issues• resolves conflicts between parent
& child
The parents completely trust us with their child’s future and that is a big motivator for us.
Foundation Programme• A strong foundation programme for students of Class XI
& XII so that they can prepare for career oriented education
• Individual focus and good quality of education in Class XI and XII will help the students have a successful life
• These students get extra academic support along with their school education
• A network of passionate tutors and institutions help us achieve this
• Mentor Programme – where mentors guide the students in making right career choices based on their interest & aptitude
