EMPLOYMENT RESOURCES

Julie’s list is a website run by a local social worker and has an extensive list of employment resources for individuals in the Metro Detroit area. You can find the complete list by going to http://julieslist.homestead.com/EmployEducation.html. However, the following will highlight a few of the resources detailed on her website.

MI Road 2 Work: https://miroad2work.org/

MI Road 2 Work is a program run by The Partnership for Diversity and Opportunity in Transportation – which is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for information about apprenticeship programs, apprenticeship readiness and employment opportunities. They partner with a multitude of agencies and business in the Metro Detroit area to provide a plethora of apprenticeships that will provide the learner with trade skills. This is a tremendous way to get your foot in the door and connect with potential employers, as well as develop a skillset that opens a number of doors for your career and future employment.

Platform to Employment (P2E): https://www.platformtoemployment.com

Platform to Employment (P2E) creates a pathway to opportunity for job seekers. The program is a nationally recognized solution, helping the long-term unemployed get back to work.

The foundation of Platform to Employment is a five-week preparatory program for job seekers which includes skills assessments, career readiness workshops, employee assistance programs and more. Career coaches work with participants to leverage their professional experience and to develop effective job search strategies. Upon completion, P2E helps participants find open positions at local companies and offers a trial work experience.

The trial work experience becomes an extended interview where there is no risk to the employer and participants are given an opportunity to demonstrate they can do the job. The expectation is that if the company is satisfied with the performance of the candidate, a full-time job will ensue.

Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation: https://www.descmiworks.com/ The mission of Detroit Employment Solutions is to promote the economic self-sufficiency of Detroit residents and to provide qualified workers to local employers through the delivery of cost-effective, high quality employment, training and education services in partnership with businesses, community- based organizations, educational institutions and governmental agencies. Detroit Employment Solutions centers are strategically located throughout Detroit to service residents and provide a knowledgeable workforce to employers.
