LEADERSNEWS Welcome to Edwardstown Primary School; whether you are an existing family, a new Reception family, or have transferred from elsewhere, I hope 2020 is a year of good happenings. I’m sure there have been many moments of angst already as we listen to the news and know families going through hardship, and it is so important as a school we provide a positive and comfortable learning environment each day. Students need routines and consistent expectations, and I am confident this year will reflect our school values of Respect, Doing you Best, and Care and Compassion- kindness is paramount to coping with life stresses. This year we welcome 4 new teachers, 17 new students across Year 1 7, and 74 Receptions. Larissa Maher joins us from East Adelaide as our Performing Arts teacher and Room 8 Friday teacher, and she is also working with our 6/7 Festival Choir group. Simon Leek is our R-7 P.E teacher, and provides Health lessons to our 6/7 classes. Andy Sommers is teaching Year 6 in Room 15, and joins us from Hawthorndene Primary, and David Stewart-Peters is our Year 7 teacher in Room 13, and has transferred from Renmark. Sue Boggiano has returned as a middle Primary Science teacher every Monday. We have included all our teachers and room numbers in our Newsletter, and during the term will update you on our student support officers (SSOs). I am pleased to report Simone Morrison’s Pastoral Care hours have been reinstated by the Department, so we continue to have her well being support across the school. We are also loving Julie Connor as our new Canteen Coordinator. Being the community minded school we are, Julie has her husband Neil helping out on Wednesdays until we can find regular volunteers. Our Newsletter is available 3 times per term, in weeks 3, 6 and 9. I usually write a quick update in week 1, with all correspondence available either through email, the web page or SkoolBag app. If you don’t have access to these options please let Judy in the Front Office know so she can provide you with hard copies. Classroom teachers correspond through See-saw and emails. By now class teachers have introduced themselves to you, and you will have a chance to meet in person and hear more about the classroom setup, expectations and curriculum at Acquaintance night on Wednesday, 12 th February. If you need to make a longer time to discuss your child’s individual needs please make a separate time with the teacher. We are proud of our Outdoor Education programme, with all students from Year 2 -7 having an opportunity for an overnight sleepover or camp. All these activities will take place in Term 1 this year, so if you would like to start a payment plan please see our Business Manager Jen who will be happy to set up a mutually beneficial payment option. ACQUAINTANCE NIGHT SCHEDULE Please make sure you book in Wednesday, 12th February to hear about your child’s learning and class plans for the year. We will offer supervision in the Hall for our students if required, as adults only in classrooms due to space. NO students are to be left in the school yard unattended by an adult.

All classrooms will be open for parents, and teachers will spend 15-20 minutes explaining class routines and curriculum and leave time for questions and chats between families. If you have more than 1 student at school we ask you to spread your time accordingly, and attend the most appropriate classroom for you.

VOLUNTEERS Working with Children Check (WWCC) and RAN (Responding to Abuse & Neglect) are required for volunteers in public schools. It depends on your role and your interactions with children. Camps, swimming, coaches and Council members require a clearance, as do any adults other than school parents. Please enquire at the Front Office. All applications are now done online through our Deputy Principal, Vicky Bashford. Parent volunteers in classrooms or on day excursions currently do not require a screening check.

COMMUNICATION CHANNELS – Skoolbag App DON’T MISS OUT ON ANYTHING… A SIMPLE AND GREAT WAY TO BE IN TOUCH! Did you know that you can do your student absence / change of address 24/7 via Skoolbag? How easy… The Skoolbag App is able to give you instant notifications and is an easy means of accessing our regular newsletters. At the beginning of each year you will need to change the group/s that you had previously. These groups are your child’s classroom. Please select only the classes applicable for your children, then you will receive up to date info for that class. The App can be downloaded from the App Store (iPhones), Google Store (android) and Windows Store (Win8.1 phones) on your phone, tablet or laptop. When installing, please make sure you allow push notifications because this enables us to get messages to you in the fastest way possible. You can notify the school of your child’s absence through this app and also advise change of address / phone number. Should you have difficulties accessing the App please talk with our Front Office staff. A school Facebook page for parents is also available. If parents would like to join, please search & find the group: “Edwardstown Primary School Parent Group”.

MEDICATION

Please be aware that the Education Department has a new Medication Policy regarding administering Medication on site. All medication (including short term antibiotics) administered at EPS need a Medication Agreement and a Health Support Agreement. These need to be completed before any staff can give medication. Please see Front Office staff re this if your child at any time needs medication. All medication needs to be labelled by a pharmacist, even over the counter medication and in its original labelled box.

YEAR BOOK 2019

We still have a few 2019 year books available from the Cashier’s office - $27.00. If you missed out last year please be quick so you don’t miss out again.

PAYMENT of ALL SCHOOL INVOICES can be paid via QKR! Download the app today.

This is the MOST EFFICIENT way to pay from your phone or any device.

SCHOOL FEES 2020

The Material & Services fee approved for 2020, is $370-00 per student for the year – no change from last year. The invoice for school fees will be sent home via students within the next 2 weeks.

Payment is due before the end of Term 1. Payment options:-

Qkr by Masterpass – download the app. The MOST EFFICIENT way to pay all fees. Cashier – cash, cheque or EFTPOS - open each morning 8:30am until 9am. EPS Website http://www.edwardps.sa.edu.au – choose the PAYMENT tab on the right hand side. Click the LARGE, white “School” payment button to pay by debit or credit card. SET-AND-FORGET PAYMENT PLANS are a great way to stay on top of all the beginning of the school year fees, including camp payments, instrument hire, choir fees. Please speak with me in the Finance Office or on 8293 2753, to organize a Payment Plan. It takes less than 3 minutes to set up… and then you can forget it. The Payment Plan can extend over a long period of time to alleviate any financial stress (a much longer payment term than paying in full by the end of Term 1). The Event Levy no longer exists, as endorsed by Governing Council. Students now pay per excursion or event, with a no pay no go approach. School Card (Government subsidy for School fees) The eligibility criterion has expanded to the Gross Annual Income Limit of $60,264 for one child. Do you think you may qualify? Do you hold a Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card? If yes, then you most likely will qualify for the subsidy. If you believe you qualify for the School Card Government subsidy, please apply ONLINE at https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/education-and-learning/financial-help-scholarships-and-grants/school-card-scheme

Follow the link, click on the grey down arrow at the right hand side of "Applications", scroll down to find Form A: income audit – apply online Or, you can come in to the Front Office and our staff will assist you to apply online on one of our computers. Forms are

also available from the Front Office. Bring in your Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card.

Remember: If you were deemed eligible last year for School Card, you must complete an application EACH YEAR.

Thank you. Jen Goodman, Business Manager

SCHOOL BANKING INFORMATION SESSION Edwardstown Primary School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards. The rewards available during 2020 are:

o Terry Denton’s Activity Book o Mini Soccer Ball (size 2) o Treetop Stationary Set o Treetop Handball o Tomato Seed Kit o Magic Mist Drink Bottle o Emoji Wallet o Snakes & Ladders Game

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. School Banking day is Thursday. Each week you need to place your Dollarmites wallet in your classroom’s grey banking bag. We will be holding a School Banking Information Session at our school: Time: 8.30am until 8.50am Date: Thursday 20th February 2020 Location: Ouside the Reception classrooms

Please join us and find out more about the School Banking program and how your child can get involved. If you are interested in opening a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account for your child you can visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account. A School Banking representative will be available at the Information Session to explain how you can do this. In order to verify yourself and your child, you will need your driver’s licence and your child’s birth certificate, but if you don’t have these with you on the day, you can complete verification online at home.
