From your President, Judy Aguilar-Woertz …..Notes from our October 14th meeting! (Check out Judy’s message on the last page of this newsletter!)
Wow, what energy and great information! If you were there you know what I am talking about and if you weren‘t……..you missed a great meeting. Tom Petersen brought so much information about disability insurance that I never knew. Based on a recent study, if most Americans need 65% - 75% of their income just to live and ‗they are covered under their group plan for 66% of their income‘…………………………….then they have a real problem! Even though, I might not have a product to help them………I now know who to contact so my clients are taken care of.
I also heard a couple of great questions to open the discussion with my clients: First, ask which asset is most valuable: your car, your home, or your ability to earn a living? Then…….after an appropriate pause – ask which of these assets have you insured? Hmmm!

OR ….. Maybe you haven’t contributed at all? It is time to consider what you are doing to help your profession and career.

We will have the collection boxes at the October meeting for collection of items, so make a note to bring your donations! This is a great organization that was established in 2004 and their sole purpose is to provide non-perishable food, personal care, and recreational items to US servicemen and women in harm‘s way.
Please support our brave men and women through this great organization. This is the least we can do here at home for those who have chosen to keep us free!

Use these talking points in letters, emails, faxes, and personal visits with legislators.
THE ISSUE is how to provide affordable health care coverage for all Americans and ensure professional assistance in the selection of insurance coverage.
Specific reform efforts should:
PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE – licensed, fairly compensated, insurance agents offer a cost effective means of achieving personal and professional assistance in the selection of insurance coverage for individuals and employers of all sizes in all markets.
BUILD ON THE EMPLOYER-BASED SYSTEM – employer-sponsored coverage is a tax deductible expense for employers and not taxable to employees as part of their compensation.
PROVIDE AFFORDABLE OPTIONS – insurance professionals have found that flexible spending arrangements (FSAs), health reimbursement accounts (HRAs), and health savings accounts (HSAs) used in conjunction with high-deductible plans offer affordable health care solutions.
ALLOW PROFESSIONAL CONSUMER GUIDANCE IN GOVERNMENT-ORGANIZED HEALTH EXCHANGES – If government-organized exchanges or gateways are created as an alternative method for distributing coverage, consumers will need reliable information from non-government licensed professionals to make informed decisions.
OPPOSE CREATION OF A NEW GOVERNMENT PLAN – A new government plan should not be created to contend with private insurance.
ADOPT MEDICAL MALPRACTIVE REFORM – Defensive medicine adds costs to the system and high insurance premiums for medical professionals just raises the cost of health care insurance for everyone.
When sending a letter, concentrate on issues and points you feel strongly about. Be professional and courteous no matter what you think the elected official believes regarding this subject.
