On behalf of EFTCO, ECTA, essenscia and Cefic , the eECD project team is wishing all its members the very best wishes
for a successful 2018 and looks forward to a closer
collaboration through the eECD pilot project.
1. The eECD project got funded!
Back in September 2017, the agreement was reached to start collecting the required project funds
to build and develop the eECD pilot project. The objective of the eECD project is to digitalize the
existing paper EFTCO Cleaning Document or ECD with an electronic version. Each association was
asked to collect an equal project fund amount through its members by end December. With this
project communication letter, we want to thank all the project sponsors for their project
contributions to kickoff this eECD project and let it further grow in 2018.
What is the digital eECD project about? Given a picture says more than one thousand words, find
below how the project team envisions tomorrow’s digital eECD booklet and process. A digital
eECD booklet is gathering the ECD info up to 3 ECD cleaning transactions; this info is on line
available and only accessible by the companies who have done cleaning and loading activities on
the ECD’s and equipment involved. An ECD can be printed at any time in case this would be
required while the ECD info can also be visible on a mobile device. A kickoff process workshop
has been organized on January 9th, 2018 to start defining a common eECD process flow.
2. Which companies are part of the eECD pilot project?
As some of you might remember, the EFTCO Cleaning paper document was introduced in 2005
by EFTCO, ECTA and Cefic and till today, the ECD is considered as the best practice document
used throughout the Chemical Industry. The digital eECD project is now coordinated by 4
industry associations ECTA, essenscia - Cefic and EFTCO and is backed by many of its members
across Europe and this as per logo picture below. Some of the listed members have been
funding the project while others are involved in developing, testing and building the eECD pilot
project while still others from the Chemical Industry have endorsed the eECD project through a
formal “Letter of Support”. Clearly this project is cross-association collaboration project starting
with a pilot and demonstration project at Benelux level and aiming to grow across Europe in
2019.
3. What are the eECD first project plan and milestones?
Looking at the chart below, you might get the feel that you start in the middle of a new project
and this is true for most of the companies joining now. The pre-study work of the project started
more than 2 years ago. Last year, the data sharing platform architecture was defined and selected
and the business case got built. It is only very recently and since we have the eECD project funding
secured, that we can start building and demonstrating the eECD pilot project and this at the start
of January 2018. An eECD pilot case will be built around product flows handled in the Chemical
Cluster between BE, NL,FR and GE. Once we have proven the pilot is successful and can be
demonstrated we plan to roll out the project across Europe.
In our subsequent newsletter, we will drill down deeper to some of the project activities in the
next 3-6 months.
