It was -also first mentioned here how close Pancake Hollow was to realization. Recent pronouncements in the daily press bear testi. mony to the fa9t.
Incidentally, Totowa Borough Clerk Joseph Constantinc will also acquire tenure with his re-appointment. Joe has been almost indis- pensable in his conduct of the borough clerk's duties.

..... ,-. :'.:- ............ ,.........':........................................... Well, 1957 has gone and 1958 is here in all its glory and promise
bigger and better things to come. I hope so! In the last several years I have managed not to break any New
ear resolutions. It was easy for me .because I didn't make any at all. I'm not a dope. I know resolutions last for a couple of days and then pfff't, out the window.
I don't know •bout you but last New Year's eve was a real BIG one for me. Actually, it was the first time in many years that we have attended a New Year's Eve party anywhere but home. The spouse and I generaJly sit up with the "five" and• see the New Year in and then off to the sack. But last year, number one son was off to some social event with his best girl and num•ber two son also off in another direction, making the family party a little weak. The feeling is strained because along about midnight both Morn and I are won- dering if the boys are all right. All sorts oœ ideas keep cropping up. If you are a parent I guess I don't have to tell you what some of them are... Anyway, the neighbors saw our lights on a little longer than usual and called on the phone to ask us over.
It's hard to say no, especially when they say, "bring the kiddies. '• So there we were until four a.m., eating and drinking and making merry with the kids, ours and theirs, stretched all over the floor, fast asleep. It got so that we forgot all about the boys .being out and when we trekked in about-5 a.m. there they were sprawled over the living room ,furniture, deep in slumber.
Our entrance was a little noisy .because it is a little awkward for two to •be carrying three. Well, not actually carrying three. My wife and I each carried one with one other between us, bobbing and weaving all over.
The boys awoke and wanted to know, "where were you? .... How come, you %vere out?'.' "Why so late? .... Weren't you worried about us?" ' Did you have iun?" ..
Oh, what a night..We finally quieted them down.• promising' to tell them all •bout' i• i.n the morning. But .when I awoke I had to come to work, .Nothing " has been said since. Maybe this year will be a repeat. Oh, .my: ,i-{AP:I:::q•' • YEAR!'

AS SEEN BY IgON PHILLII•
MARTINEZ IN DO OR DIE AFF•_II• -- '58 IS I•RE!
The r big moment is here! The old year 1957 is going, and ready to make his appearance is Mister 1958, as the local sportscene is se$ /or another banner season.
The arrival o• the New Year will o•er many interesting ques- tions as-to how and what, as the old' year ..bows out.
To sports •ans, however, matters political, scientific, or military, are not 'their chief concern. They' wonder how the yankees will do in the coming season; will the Knickerbockers .be in the NBA play- offs; and will boxing survive in town here.
Although the crystal '•all is hardly clear, this writer sees some of the situations taking effect. as interesting results are ready to take place as 1958 gets all ready 'to adopt itself to the local scene.
The one big problem is Vince. Martinez, the. town's leading con• tender •or welterweight honors who still is trying •or a shot 'at the vacant title, and who may finally get his chance when he tangle• with Gil Turner in Philadelphia, on January 15th.
This could be his golden opportunity a•ter missing out in-Boston. The June night in Fenway Park when he fought Tony De Marco
meant so. much 1•o Vince and now once again the situation arises to see i• the. Paterson ilstic star has the material to go all the way up the ladder of success.
Will he ,be able to do it this time ? That question and many others can only be answered l•y Mr. Martinez himself. If he takes' the atti- tude to go all out and make mincemeat of the opposition in such a manner, with such a determined bid, then he will prove to the Pater- son fight fans that he has everything to carry the welterweight championship belt to his home town.
Aggressiveness .and his natural ring 'talent could put Vince at the top•' but the ring veteran has to come up with two answers.
(1) Will he t•ke •che pretty title? or (2) Will he •ake the pretty face of his ?' .Th.e•se are the two big answers: fight and win, or back away and lose!
The January 15th elimination bout with Turner in Philly _will tell story, as a win by Vince will put him on top. While a set. back will put Martinez on the outside with his ever
] wing manager, Sweet-Willurn Daly of Englewood. Let's hope for all concerned that Paterson will see him as the
.=next welterweight champion .of •he world. -. The bout will be promoted by Herman Taylor, veteran Philly
matchmaker, and it will .be. the first fight in Philly since May, 1955. Th6 • fight will be televised nationally on W•C-TV Channel 7
with Philly"and vicinity blacked out. It will .be a regular Wednesday night rite telec.ast, which is sponsored by Menhen Products. ß
It will also determine if Martinez will climb into the semi-final
bracket with Isaac Logart, who has already scored over Gaspar Or- tega in the first series 6]imination. ' •
