    hay or roots. Hay, of course, is made

    from dried grass stored for the winter,

    We write one leaf, but two leaves. To make the plural (more than one) leaf we change the

    f into v and es. We do this to most nouns ending in f. But there are some exceptions. To the

    Whenever the bell rings at our house I always wonder who it is, make a guess and run quickly to open the door, for it would be unkind to keep the person waiting. am afraid my guesses are more often wrong than right but it is good fun trying. Sometimes it is a postman with a parcel for Mummy sometimes it is Mr. Neighbour from next door coming to have a chat with Dad. Once, but only once, thank good-ness, it was the doctor coming to see my brother. Quite often the caller is my friend Elizabeth who comes to play with me.When I open the door say, how do you do? if it

    is someone to see farther or Mother I say, Wont you come in? Then 1 find a chair for the caller

    and say sit down. I will call Mummy. If neither of my parents at home I ask the caller if I can take a message to them when they return. Sometimes I write it down, If it is simple I just remember it.My mother says it helps her a lot when I answer the door like this. Do you help your mother in the same way?But I must admit I like best to open the door for Elizabeth, Come in Elizabeth, I cry. It is nice of you. And off we run to play.
