Senior Quotes
● Senior quotes go with senior portraits in the yearbook
● Quotes will be collected in October during advisory.
● Mrs. Hefner, along with senior advisors and administration, will review quotes before they are placed in the yearbook.
● If a student turns in an inappropriate quote, they will not have a second chance to turn in another one
Senior Recognition Ads
Senior Ads available at the following prices:Full page - $300 (up to 20 pictures)Half page - $200 (up to 10 pictures)1/4 page - $125 (up to 5 pictures)1/8 page - $75 (1-3 pictures)

North Carolina’s annual campaign to support college access is moving to the month of October this year and is now named NC Countdown to College. Activities during the month support high school seniors in completing three important college enrollment steps: residency, FAFSA, and applications. College Application Week will take place October 21-25th. During this week, volunteers at hundreds of NC high schools help students submit online applications for admission while some colleges offer application fee waiver opportunities.

College Application Process•Primary Months-September and October; November at the latest! (This is now!)
• Target number of 3-4 Colleges•You may apply to more, just keep in mind, applications can be expensive
•Make sure you include at least one school that you are sure you can afford!

Common Misconceptions about Applying to College
• Wait to apply after SAT or ACT scores are back.NO!!!!!!!!!!!
• It is fine to wait right up until the deadline to apply.NO!!!!!!!!!!!
• There is no need to apply to a school that we think we won’t be able to afford (such as a private college).
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!• If I am starting off at a community college, I can wait
until later on close to graduation to apply.NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
College Application Tips
● We advise your student to create a RESUME- Template is on Counseling website and was sent to your students it in an email. Have your student give a copy to their counselor and ANYONE writing a recommendation for them
● Keep all passwords to collegeboard, college accounts, FAFSA in one central location
● Please have a PROFESSIONAL email- not- [email protected]
● Have your students do the grunt work! This is their future! – They can call the college to ask particular questions- Colleges want to hear from THEM.
● You get 2 excused absences a semester for college visits. Please get the form from MRS. WHEELER in the CONTROL ROOM at LEAST a week in advance. You will have to bring something back from the college stating you’ve been there.
Sending Transcripts● Send through CFNC’s transcript manager. If you are
applying to a North Carolina college/university and send your transcript through other means (common app, SEND.Edu) you STILL need to send your transcript through CFNC. After graduation, your final transcript will be uploaded automatically.
● If you are applying to an out of state school you will have to use Scrib Order (click the link). Current students will get 5 free transcripts sent through scrib order. After that you will be charged $10.00. Transcripts cannot be faxed!

Recommendations
● Send only if the college requires them!○ If your student is applying to college
through Common App- most of the time a recommendation letter is required from the college.
● At least a one-week notice for forms Ex: counselor report form
● At least a two-week notice for written letters of recommendation

How do I send ACT scores from the junior year test?
NCAA Eligibility Center
• Student creates an account and registers at www.eligibilitycenter.org
• Student has to be registered on NCAA in order to have their transcript uploaded.
• SAT/ACT scores must be sent directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center using code 9999.
• A student will not be completely cleared until the final transcript is received.

● A common misconception is “I am not #1 in the class… I won’t get any money”. NOT TRUE.
● APPLY, APPLY, APPLY. The biggest mistake is not taking the time to apply.
● You need to write great applications/essays for scholarships
● If an interview is required of you, we will have opportunities for you to do a “mock” interview.
● DO NOT MISS A DEADLINE● Gaston County has a scholarship website. This is
where most of our scholarship information comes from. You can search by school, by deadline, and by subject. Visit www.gastoncountyscholarships.com
● Students should also use online scholarship searches. They can create a profile and do a search just for them! www.fastweb.com is one of the best!
Financial Aid• Grants (you don’t have to pay back), loans (you do
have to pay back), work study
• Must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) starts October 1st, 2019
•GOOD THINGS ABOUT FILING EARLIER:
•You will have a better picture of what the cost of attendance will be and know earlier than usual.
•You will not have to “estimate” your income and then worry about it changing later. (YAY!)

Financial Aid Tips• Some Colleges have a “Priority Deadline” for FAFSA (typically
a date sometime March specific to EACH college)• GET ADVICE- ALL colleges have a financial aid office and
often times the financial aid advisors provide workshops and can give GREAT advice. (THEY ARE THE SPECIALISTS)
• Cost of Attendance will vary from school to school.• Expected Family Contribution (number that is used to determine
student’s eligibility for federal student financial aid. (sometimes this can be way off)
• Total cost of attendance –Expected Family Contribution = Financial Need
• Private Schools vs. Public Schools• Complicated living situation? MOST DEFINITELY need to
attend FAFSA Night or plan on going to FAFSA Day!!!!

● WHAT AND WHY RDS?o A series of questions from an online interview that will determine if your
student will get in-state tuition or not (based on where you live and have lived)● WHAT DO I NEED?
○ For students: parent/legal guardian’s SSN, NC tax filing, vehicle registration, driver’s licence, voter registration, and other information about residency in NC.
○ If students skip too many questions in the interview, there will not be any information for RDS to consider.
● WHEN do I do RDS?○ Before you do your College Applications
• NC Community Colleges- require RCN before you can submit your application. ALL STUDENTS.
• University of NC Colleges- may ask for RCN as part of their admission process. It varies when students are asked for it.
• NC Private/Independent Colleges/Universities- It is part of the financial aid process.
