Exploitation
SoS engineering process /Lower Entry Barriers
FP7 EGIDA project, Grant 265124
EGIDA APPROACH (1)
• BOTTOM UP
– BUILD ON NATIONAL, EUROPEAN AND NON-EUROPEAN
PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS
– ANALYZE NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN INITIATIVES RELATED
TO GEOSS IMPLEMENTATION IN EUROPE AND
ELSEWHERE
– ENGAGE RELEVANT FP7 PROGRAMS
FP7 EGIDA project, Grant 265124
EGIDA APPROACH (2)
– TOP DOWN-SUPPORT AND COORDINATE WITH THE GEO STC• Co-leadership of GEO TASKS ST-09-01 AND ST-09-02• STC leaders play an active role in the project• GEO Secretariat liaison to STC is member of EGIDA Advisory
Board• Advisory Board members are leading other relevant European
and non-European initiatives (e.g. INSPIRE, GMES, GEO)
• EGIDA will deliver a Methodology to apply a System of Systems engineering process at the National level

EGIDA DELIVERABLES
• Evaluation processes• Tests and assessment indexes• Expertise databases• A “GEO label” concept• Surveys• Other instruments
• The EGIDA Methodology• Four Use Cases to assess the EGIDA Methodology
FP7 EGIDA project, Grant 265124
EGIDA Methodology• a general methodological approach• adopted by national/regional S&T communities for a
sustainable contribution to the GEOSS – through the participation in national, European and international
initiatives and projects
• provide guidelines to align the on-going and planned national/regional actions with the GEOSS objectives
• a set of good practices for:– Capacity building– Community engagement– Existing organizations role
FP7 EGIDA project, Grant 265124
CONTRIBUTIONS TO DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Transfer EGIDA S&T Methodology to them and implement four Specific Use Cases
– HOT SPOT POLLUTION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN• Chemical pollution investigated under the KNOWSEAS project
– MEDITERRANIAN REGION• Focus on partnership, infrastructures, products and
services involving southern Mediterranean countries
– PAN-EUROPEAN “AIR QUALITY FOR HEALTH”• Analysis of national and international stakeholders initiatives in air quality
and health• Methodology development and transfer of geo principles in air quality and
health community
– SLOVENIA (methodology transfer in a small country use case)• Investigate feasibility of EGIDA methodology transfer to small countries
