Eglinton Day School
Vision
We will provide high quality education in a nurturing and safe environment. The enriched, child-centric teaching method provides a rich learning environment, empowering a child to develop to his or her potential. We aim to guide children on their exciting voyages of discovery in the journey to adulthood.
Core Values
•Quality education and high academic standards
•A safe, respectful, and supportive environment
•A partnership between home and school•Respect for the natural world•A strong sense of school community as
well as a contribution to the larger community
•A Global Education perspective
Facts and Details• School Day: School will run from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
• Year-round Program: The school will operate on a September - June academic school program.
• Camp Programs: Eglington Day School (EDS) will offer childcare to all
students in the form of camp programs for the Winter Holidays, March Break, PD Days, and the Summer Holidays.
• Program Exceptions: EDS will only be closed for 3 weeks of every
year to accommodate the dedication of the teaching staff: (a) the week before school begins; (b) one week at Winter break; (c) the week following school closing in June.
• Snow Days: It is our priority that the school will remain open
throughout the winter months, with minimal interruption to the students’ education. As long as the safety of our teachers and students is not at risk, classes will continue on those cold, snowy, Canadian winter days. Communication with our families during winter storms will be efficient and time sensitive.

How does EDS Differ? We offer Differentiated Instruction:
• Differentiated Instruction is a method of teaching based on the idea that students differ significantly in their interests, learning styles and readiness to learn.
• It is necessary to adapt instruction to suit these differing characteristics in an environment that is planned and organized to meet the needs of all students in a risk-free environment.
“We might change the layout of the track, but all students are still in the race.”
- Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson
Consider the movie, The Sound Of Music…
At one point, the teacher, Maria Von Trapp (Julie Andrews), takes the 7 children on a bike ride. As they ride, some children follow the teacher, some ride alongside, and some move ahead.
One child is riding on the back of the teacher’s bicycle, because she can’t ride at all. Despite everyone’s different rate and competency with bike riding, the group is moving as a whole; everyone is on the trip (advanced and struggling bike riders alike), and no one is left behind.
Curriculum and DevelopmentChildren who have the luxury of receiving an education, spend the majority of their childhood in classrooms. It is therefore essential, that within the classroom, educators are fostering the development of positive individuals and inspiring students to use their voices, and ultimately, make a difference for themselves, their community, and the world around them.
How does EDS Differ? We offer Sylvan Programming:
• Guided by Sylvan’s research-based academic excellence, EDS will offer a superior curriculum designed to enrich the current Ministry expectations and guidelines.
Curriculum and Development
In order for this to occur, educators need a modified curriculum that reminds them of why they love teaching, and to inspire them to believe that every child can and will make a difference. They need a curriculum that can aid them and motivate them in transforming their classrooms to one that realizes the full global potential of every individual student.
Curriculum and Development
By modifying the Ontario Curriculum, EDS’s global education approach to the curriculum will encourage youth to act as global citizens and empower young people with the vision that they can, and will, make a difference by playing an active role in creating a better world.
