EGLSF BoardFour Board members were elected at the Manchester AGA: Louise Englefield as female Co President, Juha Meronen as Treasurer and Armelle Mazé and Marie Kampmann as Board members at large.

The Board met in January (Helsinki, Finland), March (Manchester, United Kingdom), May (Berlin, Germany), July (Cologne, Germany) and in October (the Hague, the Netherlands). Next meeting is scheduled in January (Warsaw, Poland).

Full information about Board work during 2009 will be included in the papers for the Frankfurt AGA 2011.

EuroGamesDuring 2010, EGLSF Board has kept in close contact with the Rotterdam 2011 and Budapest 2012 EuroGames organis-ers. A joint meeting was held in Cologne in August and, additionally, a meeting with Rotterdam Team in The Hague in October and with Budapest Team in December.

Registration for Rotterdam 2011 EuroG-ames started in November. For details, please visit www.eurogames2011.eu.

VIII Gay Games - Co-logne

VIII Gay Games were successfully celebrated in Cologne from 31st July to 7th August. For information about this important event, please see www.games-cologne.de. Thanks to the invitation by the organisers and FGG (Federation of Gay Games), EGLSF and the Euro-Games were visibly present during the whole celebration of the event.

EGLSF feels proud of the accomplish-ment achieved by its member Janus Co-logne, which celebrated recently its 30th anniversary. Just after VIII Gay Games, FGG held its General Assembly. EGLSF was officially invited and many EGLSF

clubs participated in it as FGG members.

AdvocacyEGLSF continued its advocacy work dur-ing 2009. A full report about this activity will be included in next AGA papers.

EGLSF pursued its cooperation, between others, with FARE, ILGA-Europe, Euro-pean Commission and Council of Europe.

We can specifically highlight some most visible projects, the release of the award-winning travelling exhibition “Against the Rules - Lesbians and Gays in Sport” which can be rented free of charge (see www.eglsf.info/exhibition/ for details); pub-lication of special LGBT-themed poster during the FARE action week (available for download at www.eglsf.info), etc.

EGLSF Funding programmesEGLSF introduced two funding / small grants programmes in 2010, which EGLSF members successfully used and implemented with their activities: Innova-tion and Good Practice Fund and Football

for Equality Fund. The results will be presented in more details at the Frankfurt AGA 2011.

Frankfurt Annual General Assembly (AGA 2011)From 4th to 6th March 2011, EGLSF will hold its next Annual General Assembly (AGA 2011), FVV Frankfurt and Artemis Frankfurt acting as hosts. You will find full information about it, at EGLSF web page (www.eglsf.info). A summarised draft schedule for your convenience:

• Members’ Good Practices Friday 4th March (afternoon)

• Annual General Assembly Saturday 5th March (all day) and Sunday 6th March (morning)

• Elections Four Board positions are open for elec-tion: - Male Co President - General Secretary - Two Board members at large According to article 11.4 of EGLSF by-

laws, gender equality must be assured at EGLSF Board level.

In order to ease the task of AGA del-egates concerning elections, we advise potential candidates to send to EGLSF Female Co-President ([email protected]) a brief note prior to the AGA. The letter should indicate which position you are running for, including a brief curriculum and presentation, in total of one (1) A4 sheet. EGLSF will forward this message to all the members. According to EGLSF bylaws (article 11.7.2), candidates should have been members of an EGLSF mem-ber club for at least one year. Members clubs are asked to check among their own members for qualified candidates and, if they wish so, to nominate then for the vacant positions.

Out of fairness and transparency, current Board members whose post is open for re-election will inform EGLSF members as soon as possible if they run again or not.

• AGA Draft Agenda At EGLSF website, you can find the AGA draft agenda. You are invited to make comments and suggestions that the Board will duly evalu-ate and take into consideration.

• AGA 2012 host candidates If some clubs have already the intention of running for being the 2012 AGA host, it would be advisable to make their inten-tions known as soon as possible. In this sense, a small presentation report would be sent to EGLSF General Secretary ([email protected]) explaining the grounds for this candidacy, as well as information about venues and other practical issues. EGLSF General Secretary will forward this information to all EGLSF members.

2011 MembershipYou can find the online membership form at www.eglsf.info/membership-form.php. Please fill it online providing all

the required information, as indicated in the form. Please, do not forget to fill the sections on sports offered with number of men and women at every sport. This information is needed for statistical back-grounds (perhaps some people do more one sport, so it could be that the total members’ number could be lower than the total per sports).

The number of members determines the fee each club has to pay as EGLSF mem-bership fee for 2011; the table is enclosed in the membership form. Invoices are sent upon request. Please, pay the fee by international bank transfer to our account:

Beneficiary: EGLSF Meeuwenlaan 41 NL-1021 HS Amsterdam, the Netherlands IBAN: NL23INGB0000768040

Bank: ING Bank (former Postbank) Amsterdam, the Netherlands SWIFT/BIC: INGBNL2A

EGLSF has to receive the correct and full fee without any bank transfer fees, which are at each club expenses. If your club does not have a bank account, it is possible to pay the fee as well with credit card via Pay Pal. In this case, contact EGLSF treasurer Juha Meronen ([email protected]).

Membership fee for 2011 has to be paid by the 1st February 2011. If the fee has not been paid by this date, voting rights during the Annual General Assembly will be decided case by case. EGLSF treasurer can monitor payments to the EGLSF account per date. In this sense, it will not be needed to present further proof of payment when registering for AGA. All members are urged to pay as soon as possible and respect the deadline date as a condition of full AGA participation.

At 2006 Budapest AGA, a reduction of the membership fee for clubs from outreach countries was agreed on, taking into ac-count the concerned country average in-

come. EGLSF Board, after evaluating the available data, decided to adopt the most favourable approach to the clubs. Here are the countries and the percentage of the due fee to be paid by the clubs from these countries: Bulgaria (20%), Croatia (50%), Hungary (50%), Poland (50%), Russian Federation (40%), Ukraine (20%). For any additional information, please contact EGLSF treasurer ([email protected]) or general secretary ([email protected]).

We would like to remind you, that, in order to get reduction of EuroGames participa-tion fee in 2011 Rotterdam, the club must be a member of EGLSF with paid mem-bership for two years in a row.

Best WishesThe EGLSF Board wishes you all the best for the New Year, and looks forward to meeting you in Frankfurt at the AGA and in Rotterdam for the EuroGames!

EGLSF Mem-bers’ CornerIrons Golf Society

The Irons Golf Society has a membership of about 50 gay golfers and organise regular golf competitions that are played primarily around London area from spring until autumn.

The Irons came into being in 1996 following an advertisement in the Pink Paper, at the time the most bought gay paper. This brought a few gay golfers together for the occasional informal round of golf. By 1999 the number had increased and the Society formalised itself with its first President, Captain, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee.

Since then the club has flourished. They play on Sundays nine times a year and

usually about 25 members take part in these events. These matches are friendly but competitive, with prizes and trophies for the winners. In addition to these one-day events there is an overseas trip each year - in March 2011 this will be Turkey. Each year, there are three five-day golfing events around the UK. In 2011 we will be visiting English resorts of Bournemouth and Torquay and returning to our regular venue Newport, in Wales where the Ryder Cup was held in 2010. These tours are great fun – not just for the golf but also the evenings spent in the restaurants and bars. There is also an annual match-play competition which continues throughout the year.

Most of the members are gay and lesbian, with a small number of trans members and occasional straight friends of the society joining from time to time. There is no ‘typical’ Irons member; ages range from 20 to 70 and they come from all different walks of life. Our members also have a wide range of golfing abilities with handicaps ranging from 4 to 36. Unlike most ‘straight’ golf clubs which have maximum handicap of 28 for men and 36 for ladies, we go up to 36 for both men and women. Although most live in the south of England, we do have members who live further away and usually join us

for our longer tours. Most members also belong to golf clubs near to where they live.

We are always pleased to welcome new members and hope they enjoy our company although we do insist that they understand the etiquette of golf and play at least to the standard of a 36 handicap. This is to ensure that a round of golf is not spoilt for other members and also because it is a requirement of the golf courses at which we play. We are also quite happy for non-members to join us for the occasional round – each year, golfers from Belgium and Germany join us for our five-day events.

If you would like to join us or find out more about us, please do not hesitate to contact the Irons Golf Society.

Outsports turns 106 December 2010

Outsports, based in Los Angleles, USA, was founded in November 2000 by Jim Buzinski and Cyd Zeigler, Jr with the mission to build a broad, deep, informative and entertaining gay sports community.

Although Outsports covers mostly the news and events in the USA or North America in general, the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) recognises the importance of such a community, and congratulates Outsports for their anniversary.

EGLSF otherwise also offers similar services, focusing on the European community and its member clubs.

1 Quadrennial Event Working Group established12 December 2010

We are happy to announce that GLISA and FGG nominated 14 members of the Working Group for the one quadrennial global lgbt sport event (2018 onward). EGLSF strongly salutes this step, which was one of the first concrete steps after the announcement of willingness for cooperation between both organisations, taken at the EGLSF Annual General Assembly in March 2010 in Manchester, UK.

Kurt Dahl, FGG co-president, stated:

“Based on the request to collaborate from the international LGBTQ community, we, FGG and GLISA, have formed this Working Group. We know the task at hand is a difficult one, but we are confident that this group can create what the community wants us to create: One World Event in 2018 based on Sports, Culture and Human Rights in which both existing events Gay Games and Outgames come together”.

Julia Applegate, GLISA International Chair added: “A key goal of this group is to define the content of this event. Based on the skill sets, background, knowledge and expertise of the Working Group, I am very confident this group will succeed in creating a very inspiring RFP document (Request for Proposal) on which the new event will be based”.

The members of the JWG were selected by GLISA and FGG after an extensive consultation of the LGBTQ community. Interested candidates were able to nominate themselves as well as being nominated or referred to by others.

Emy Ritt, FGG Co-President observed: “Members of the Working Group come from various parts of the world which reflects the global focus of the event we all want to create in 2018. The event will be based on three components: Sport, Culture and Human Rights and will reflect the long legacy and best practices of both our events and organizations, but will also leave room for desired changes, reform and possible improvements”.

Wessel van Kampen, GLISA International vice-Chair states: “The timeline for the JWG to produce the RFP document is tight, but realistic. We all understand what needs to be done and that along the line, we will have some serious nuts to crack. But we also know that we need to keep the end in mind: the 1st of a series of quadrennial global events with Sports, Cultural and Human Rights components that will unite our community in 2018 and beyond!”

GLISA representatives in the 1QE 2018 Working Group: Julia Applegate – Columbus, USA; Wessel van Kampen – Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Lin McDevitt-Pugh – Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Thomas K Dolan – Vancouver, Canada; Sumit Baugh – New Delhi, India; Kevin Haunui – Wellington, New Zealand; Gloria Careaga – Mexico City, Mexico.

FGG representatives in the 1QE 2018 Working Group: Emy Ritt – Paris, France; Kurt Dahl – Chicago, USA; Paul Oostenbrug – Chicago, USA; Martyn Pickup – Berlin, Germany; Leigh-Ann Naidoo – Cape Town, South Africa; Kelly Stevens – Seattle, USA; Jon Baldan – Sydney, Australia.
