About Egypt...Egyptian civilization was benefitted from the period ofpeace

and authority established over the entire country from 3200

    BC.

The period is characterized by organization of the state, progress in the arts and economic prosperity.

From about 2400 to 2000 BC, unwise use of countrys

resources led to the decline of the power of Pharaohs and a

decrease in trade, while manufacturing techniques remained

    unchanged.

Towards 2000 BC, the kings of Thebes restored order and the

unity of the state, bringing back prosperity which was to last for

    two centuries.

    About EgyptiansAbout Egyptians

Egyptian garments always remained simple, despite

the luxury afforded by the foreign conquests.

The long robe common to both sexes accentuated the

    squareness of the shoulders,

the narrowness of the waist and hips,

and the general elongation of the figures.

Wool, the material preferred in most ancient countriesof Asia was considered impure by Egyptian religion

Woolen cloak were tolerated by the first century BC,

they remained forbidden in temples and for burial.

WHAT THEIR CLOTHES ARE MADE OF

    Egyptians make most

    clothing from linen. Cotton

and silk had not beendiscovered yet. Some

    people would have woolen

    outer coats.

    Adult clothing can be white

    sheer (sheer means very

    thin).

The colors of Egyptian clothing were predominantly white. Not only is

this a good color to wear in the sun and the heat, the color white also

symbolized purity. Decoration and color came from elaborate andcolorful jewelry together with wigs and make-up. White linen cloth

was therefore used for dress in the Old and Middle Kingdoms of Egypt,

although blue and brown dyes were occasionally used to color the

linen. Egyptian clothing and fashion did not change in this respect until

the age of the New Kingdom when the method for fixing dyes werediscovered. At this time fashion changed and Egyptian dress became

much brighter with red and green colors and fashion designs became

    more elaborate.
