Hexian is located in the :ast of Anhui Province, China, and as well as being in I major vegetable growing Irea, is home to some of Zhina’s major companies. The Irea’s water supply is current- y unsuitable for domestic :onsumption by the popula- :ion of 630 000. A 20 year oint venture contract was signed with the Hexian Water Company. When complete. the extended plant will be able to supply drinking water tc neighbouring towns ant cities. ENTROPIE SECURES EGYPTIAN DESAL DEAL Entropie has received : US$3.8 million contract fron EDF International to provide two 2400 m3/day desalina tion plants to the Suez am Port Said power plants il Eimt. 3 Both plants consist of twl units, each capable of produc ing 1200 m3iday of high qua1 ity distillate water, to be uses in the boilers of the powe stations. The skid-mounte double effect thermocom pression distillers, fitted wit titanium tubes, are designee to be delivered fully assem bled, pressure tested ant cabled for immediate connec tion at both sites. Delivery i scheduled to take place il March 2001 for the Suez sits and September 2001 for POI Said. EIB FINANCES CZECH WATER SCHEMES L 20 year framework loan of 3100 million has been signed by the European Investment lank (ELB) and the Czech (onsolidacni Banka (KOB) o help finance a number of maller water supply and vastewater schemes across he Czech Republic. The EIB and the Czech vlinistry of Agriculture, the tiinistry of Finance and KOB lave joined forces to develop a nechanism for channelling ;uitable funding to smaller owns and regional entities mdertaking urgent investment nto the modemisation of the gater sector. This investment IS required to reach EU water quality standards in advance of Union membership. Together with last year’s c50 million loan for upgrading the water networks in Prague, this neu loan brings EIB support tc municipal water schemes up tc El50 million. with variable speed controls and a SCADA system to pro- ide for remote operation. A ortion of the water produced y this facility will be used by le new power plant under onstruction by Tenaska Gate- vay Partners. The intake will be con strutted by Layne’s IGS Ran ney division and consists of 24-foot diameter concrete cais son sunk to a depth of 70 fee A 30-inch diameter intake lin will be micro tunneled fron the caisson to the Toledo Bent Reservoir.
