Hello! My name is Sid and this is my house.

My house is quite big. It has got two floors -

a ground floor and a first floor. It has also got

an attic and a basement.

On the ground floor, there is a hall, a kitchen,

a pantry, a living room, a big dining room

and a toilet.

On the first floor, there are three bedrooms,

one bathroom and a big corridor. My

bedroom is between my parents’ bedroom

and the bathroom. My sister’s bedroom is in

front of mine.

I love my bedroom, but I also like the attic. In the attic, I keep some of my books

and my old toys. I like to spend my time there because it is very spacious and there

is a big sofa there where I sometimes take a nap.

In the basement is where we keep the washing machine, the drying machine and

old stuff.

At the back of the house, there is also a garage, where my parents park the family

car, and a lovely garden, with many green spaces, flowers, two swings and a small

swimming-pool.

I love my house! It’s very comfortable and cozy.

Project Work- Integration with Maths

Let’s read and solve the following sums:


1. Suhani lives in BKC society. In her society, the house numbers are assigned

randomly on each floor. The newspaper boy delivers the newspaper to each

house daily. Since the house numbers are arranged randomly, the newspaper

boy gets confused while delivering the newspaper. To help him out, Suhani

decided to talk with the President of the Society and arrange the house

numbers in an orderly manner.

(i) Help Suhani arrange the house numbers both in ascending and descending

order.

house on an even date and to every odd number house on an odd date.

Simran and her friends went for a picnic in a magical forest. In order to find

their way back to home, they need to solve a series of puzzles.

2.The first puzzle involved two giant trees. To open the path, they need to

find the difference of height between the two trees.


If the first tree is 465 feet high and the second is 399 feet, what is the height

difference?

3. The path opened to a beautiful garden with plastic trash strewn all around.

Simran and her friends were saddened to see plastic waste around this natural

beauty and pledged to clear the way around with her friends.

The exit door will open when they clear the trash. Simran and her friends got

together to clear the trash. If there were 5,556 plastic wrappers and they

cleared 3,472 plastic wrappers, how many more wrappers are yet to be

cleared?


4. The exit door leads to a river 487 inches across; if the bridge they need to

cross is only 295 inches long, how much more do they need to build the

bridge if they want to cross the river using it?

Simran noticed a few plastic bottles floating around and she and her friends

took a few with them to make bird feeder out of those bottles.

5. Across the river, Simran’s slippers fell into a deep hole filled with 6,760

litres of water. To get them out, the hole needs to be filled with 8,236 litres of

water. How much more water do they need to fill it with?

6. At the edge of the forest, an anthill is blocking their way out.

In order to pass through, Simran and her friends need to help the ants gather

food. If the ants need 9,112 grains of food and they already have 7,629 grains

of food, how many more grains are needed to be gathered?

less fortunate people.

7. The first thing that she did is to visit an orphanage which was housed in a

brick coloured building which had 14 rooms.

There she took her mother dressed up as Santa and gave toys to the children.

If she gave 134 toy cars to the boys and 269 dolls to the girls, how many toys

did she give in all?


8. Next on her list is the nursing home near her school. It had big airy

windows.

There she handed out 472 boxes of vitamins and 1,883 boxes of supplements.

How many boxes did the nursing home receive from Aashima?

9. Feeling good about what she did, Aashima decided to continue giving to

others. She went around the city and gave clothes to homeless people. If she

gave 5,891 shirts and 345 trousers to different people, how many pieces of

clothing did she give out in total?

10. After giving out clothes, she invited the homeless to her housing society

and gave them a

proper meal.

If she and her neighbours fed 2,191 men and 3,287 women, how many people

were they able to feed?


11. The last place that she went to was the city animal shelter.

There she donated some money to make sure the dogs and cats there are being

taken care of. If there are 645 cats and 567 dogs then how many animals are

there in the shelter?
