MATTHEW
Sunday July 29th 2012
WORSHIP
Eighth GospelTone - Grave
We are so very glad you have joined us today and we pray you will be inspired
and encouraged by your time with us
The Orthodox worship service is an ancient and timeless expression of how
people have loved served and worshipped God for many centuries but it may be a bit of
a different experience for you Please feel free to use a service book or not and simply
allow the words of the service to wash over you
The central act of our worship culminates in people receiving communion
This is a very special time for us all and we have some specific beliefs about our com-
munion together This is why we never impose this service on those who are not pre-
pared or are not baptized Orthodox This service may raise questions in your mind
Please feel free to ask Fr Barnabas or Fr Paul anything you wish after the service
At the end of the service EVERYONE is invited to come forward and receive a
portion of the ldquoblessed breadrdquo from Fr Barnabas No one should leave church
ldquohungryrdquo
Know you are welcome and we are glad you are here
May God bless you and your family
Apolytikion in honor of Sts Raphael Nicholas amp Irene
Having contended on Lesvos for the sake of Christ God you have sanctified the island
since the discovery of your sacred relics O blessed ones wherefore we honor you O
Godbearing Raphael together with Nicholas and virgin Irene as our divine protectors
and intercessors with the Lord

BRETHREN I appeal to you by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you but
that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment For it has
been reported to me by Chloes people that there is quarreling among
you my brethren What I mean is that each one of you says I belong
to Paul or I belong to Apollos or I belong to Cephas or I be-
long to Christ Is Christ divided Was Paul crucified for you Or
were you baptized in the name of Paul I thank God that I baptized
none of you except Crispos and Gaius lest any one should say that you
were baptized in my name (I did baptize also the household of
Stephanas Beyond that I do not know whether I baptized any one
else) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel
and not with eloquent wisdom lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its

Gospel Reading
The Reading is from Matthew 1414-22
At that time Jesus saw a great throng and he had compassion on
them and healed their sick When it was evening the disciples
came to him and said This is a lonely place and the day is now
over send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for
themselves Jesus said They need not go away you give them
something to eat They said to him We have only five loaves
here and two fish And he said Bring them here to me Then he
ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass and taking the five
loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and blessed and
broke and gave the loaves to the crowds And they all ate and were
satisfied And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces
left over And those who ate were about five thousand men besides
women and children Then he made the disciples get into the boat
and go before him to the other side while he dismissed the crowds

cost for these life saving units is about $3000 So far we have raised approximately

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Grave Tone By means of Your
Cross O Lord You abolished death To the robber You opened Para-
dise The lamentation of the myrrhbearing women You transformed and
You gave Your Apostles the order to proclaim to all that You had risen O
Christ our God and granted the world Your great mercy
Seasonal Kontakion in the Grave Tone You were transfigured upon the
mount O Christ our God and Your disciples in so far as they could bear
beheld Your glory Thus when they see You crucified they may under-
stand Your voluntary passion and proclaim to the world that You are truly
the effulgence of the Father
Resurrectional Kontakion in the Grave Tone No longer will the domin-
ion of death be able to keep men captive for Christ hath descended de-
stroying and dispelling the powers thereof Hades is bound the Prophets
rejoice with one accord saying A Saviour hath come for them that have
faith Come forth ye faithful for the Resurrection
We Also Remember Mary Magdalene The Holy Myrrh-bearer and Equal to the Apostles
Markella the Virgin-martyr of Chios

sions Andrew Archie Bill Bill Carrie Demetra Dina Donna Efthymios

ANNOUNCEMENTS
AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR
The Parish Council has authorized the purchase of two AEDs for our community One
will be placed in the Chapel Building and one will be placed in the Blue House The
cost for these life saving units is about $3000 So far we have raised approximately
$1700 to cover this expense If you are interested in donating to this project please see
any Parish Council Member
What is an AED An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic
device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias
of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient and is able to treat
them through defibrillation the application of electrical therapy which stops the ar-
rhythmia allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm
Thank you for your support with this important project
