Welcome to the European Youth Education and Meeting Centre in Weimar (EJBW)

The EJBW was founded in 1999 as an international institution and mee-

ting centre for the education of children and young people as well as for

teachers and educators from throughout Europe and beyond. We offer a

varied programme of activities for political, cultural, international and in-

tercultural education. As a meeting place, the EJBW also provides at-

tractive facilities including overnight accommodation and spaces for

holding events and conferences. We look forward to your visit!

Learning through meeting

Weimar, with its many historical and contemporary references, is a place

one can learn from and is a central aspect of all our educational acti-

vities at the EJBW. We see ourselves as a place in which children and

young people from different regions and countries can come together to

learn with one another and from one another. International and intercul-

tural groups are accordingly a central aspect of our work. In our semi-

nars, projects and international workshops we examine key issues rela-

ting to democracy such as how democratic processes can be promoted

in politics, society and everyday life and how these are threatened or in

danger of being undermined.

Learning with concept

We organise projects and events on the following topics in accordance

with your specific requirements:

– European dictators and movements for democracy

– European politics and culture

– Youth scenes and youth cultures in Europe

– International issues: human rights, globalisation, sustainability

– Democratic culture in the European context

– Weimar Classics and cultural history

– Intercultural learning and social commitment

For specific examples of our activities, see our events and projects flyers

as well as our annual programme of events on our homepage.

Meet and study in a relaxed environment

The EJBW offers ample space for concentrated work, for recreation and

relaxation.

Our facilities include:

– 134 beds in single, two and three bed rooms with shower and toilet

– 15 modern, fully-equipped seminar rooms

(ranging from a conservatory for 4 people to a cultural room for

80 people)

– a video and recording studio as well as a computer room

– two internet terminals

– an elegant fireside room

– sports facilities and playground

The Reithaus, a former riding hall in the heart of the Park an der Ilm

World Heritage Site, is an ideal venue for conferences and meetings of

between 80 and 400 people. The Reithaus also contains a video and

recording studio as well as several seminar rooms. Facilities include

modern sound equipment, staging and exhibition facilities as well as

mobile simultaneous translation equipment and wireless internet.

Our in-house kitchen prepares four meals a day with a wide variety of

dishes including vegetarian, regional and international cuisine. Our kit-

chen can also prepare packed lunches and provides an event cate-

ring service.
