INTRODUCTION
This newsletter contains pleasurable information about
EKAMA Development Foundation to enable our readers to
know what we are doing and what we have done in 2017.We
have selected photos that show some of the interesting things
that occurred in the year.
Based on our programme focus, we are proud to be sharing our
experience with communities, children, parents, teachers,
women groups, leaders and CSOs and FBOs who are striving to
pave the road to development for women and children in
Tanzania.
Most of the programmes at EKAMA Development Foundation
focus on empowering women and children in Tanzania. You
will learn how we have engaged partners and how we support a
range of women empowerment, gender equality and children
right issues; including capacity building, research and advocacy.
We are proud of the remarkable achievements we have made.
Now our progammes are appreciated by different stakeholders
both in and out of the country. We have collaborated with
networks nationally, regionally and internationally covering a
variety of partners. We invite you to read our newsletter with
passion and be part of this very inspiring venture, get informed,
educated and be moved to work with EKAMA Development

GET TO KNOW ABOUT EKAMA DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
Mission
Our Mission is to facilitate process
and actions that empower women
and children to be a powerful voice
and to contribute to change in
disempowering practices and beliefs,
structures, policies and legislation
governing their rights.
Vision
Our vision is empowered women and
children that are able to advocate for
their rights, livelihoods and welfare
in pursuit for development and full
realization of their rights.
EKAMA Development Foundation,
is an NGO registered under the laws of
Tanzania. It was officially registered
in 2003 and started operating in 2009.
It is an independent not for profit
making civil society organization with
a passion to work with women
and children to effect positive and
long-term change in the lives
of women and children.
EKAMA Development Foundation
works in four main areas, gender and
development, children’s Rights and
Welfare, Governance
and Environment. It has a Board of
Directors that currently meets twice a
year.
Where we work
Our organization is a national
organization, but for purposes of
enhancing our interventions as well as
bearing the amount of work that we can
do within the next five years, we chose
regions: the current strategic plan
covers the following regions: Mtwara,
Dar es Salaam, Mara, Manyara,

CHILDREN RIGHTS DEPARTMENT
Last year our department got the noblest
achievements gained by engaging
different community groups. The
department is running the project named
A Community Based Approach in
Preventing Violence against Children in
Community, Schools and Families at
Temeke District in Dar es Salaam.

organized Commemoration of the
International Children’s Rights
Day(#SheCANLead) .

DEPARTMENT
We managed to finance clean audit.
We concrete the team for a great Job.
GENDER AND WOMEN
EMPOWERMENT DEPARTMENT
In 2017 the Department administering
the workplace gender policy which
promotes equality for women and
men.We visited 8 women groups such
as Annex A, Annex B, Buwapo,
Chakupau, Jukumu, Morning Flower,
Mshikamano and Mwanzo Mgumu
shared ideas, provide training and
capacity building.
HUMAN RESOURSE AND
SPONSORSHIP DEPARTMENT
As a department for the past year
we sponsored 100 student who live
in vulnerable families. We care, we
love and protect our children.
Human Resource Department we
organized a staff training in
proposal writing aiming at capacity
building for Staff. We had received
intern from different institute who
join effort on our achievement like
Miriam, Jacquline, Aino,Wahilina
and Monica.
RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY
DEPARTMENT
We manage to develop on agenda of
developing scientific - evidenced
based approaches in survey topics
affecting women and children in
East Africa and Regional Countries.
We used the findings to better
understand cross-cutting issues
among women and children and
provided them with sustainable
support and solutions.
EKAMA Development Foundation
through the LDP program
participated in the Stakeholders
consultation on 13th October 2017
in Dar es salaam focus was on
discussing a dedicated Lead
Government Agency to coordinate
matters of road safety.

From 5th to 8th Sep 2017 Ekama
Development Foundation joined
TGNP Mtandao and hundreds of
people including high level
government officials,
ambassadors, representatives from
Civil Society to celebrate the 14th
Gender Festival at TGNP
grounds, with Theme:” The
Transformation of Oppressive
Systems for Gender Equality and
Sustainable Development “. The
guest of honor was, the vice
president of the United Republic
of Tanzania Hon. Samia Hassan
Suluhu. Ekama Development
Foundation in collaboration with
FCC facilitated workshop on
“Women and economic
empowerment: Challenges facing
women involvement in agriculture
sector’’ and “the understanding of
climate change’’
16 Days of Activism Against
Gender-Based Violence. The
campaign runs every year from 25
November to 10 December, based
in the International Day for the
Elimination of Violence against
Women. EKAMA development
foundation in collaboration with
other Activists CSOs participated in
Matching and opening remarks
which were held in Leaders club.
The theme of 2017 was Funguka!
Ukatili Dhidi ya Wanawake Na
Watoto Haumuachi Mtu Salama.
Chukua Hatua. Ekama facilitate
the participation of representatives
from 8 women groups from
Temeke who our partners in
implementation of activities.
