Course content
• 11-day field trip @ Chicago, St Louis (Easter break), prepared by …
• 13 seminar sessions @ Leuven (Feb 10 till March 24);
Papers and presentations on following topics
– General US issues: econ/pol history; current issues; trade
policies
– EU/US areas of conflict: GMO pro and con, Boeing v Airbus
before WTO; climate change
– Selected sectors/industries, related to the companies that
we hope to visit in April (Kraft, Monsanto, ADM or Cargill,
etc)2
Seminar format: not just presenting/listening
• External experts will comment on your presentation;
– you can revise and resubmit for the final grade
– Who? McKinsey, Bain, BCG / Fac FEB, LAW, BIO, ARTS / US Embassy / EU / …
• Some topics (GMO; Boeing/Airbus; Climate policies) are discussed by opposing teams;
• audience is expected to be active
– after a pro/con session, write a half-page personal conclusion before leaving.
– take notes/write questions in your individual seminar log book

• Chicago: – CME/CBOT, many companies, – U of Chicago, De Paul U
• Decatur IL: ADM
• Weekend at U of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign:– One or two brief talks by UI
academics– Meet with students UI’s BUS & ACES– optional sports match (tbc)– Time off
• St Louis, MO: AB Inbev (?), Monsanto, Nestlé USA

• Estimated net cost €1000-€1500; precise number soon available (we hope)
• €150 downpayment when selected; balance due end December
