1. Partition coefficient k (for diethyl ether and water; ceter / cliquid) organic
compound S is 40.0 at room temperature. Suppose you are extracting S with 50 cm3
of diethyl ether solution of 5.0 g S in 1 dm3 of water. Calculate the amount of S
extracted when you (1) using the one-time extraction (2) extraction twice (each 25
cm 3).
Jawab :
(1) Jumlah S terekstraksi, x1, dihitung sebagai berikut. k = ceter / cair = (x1/ 50,0) / (5,0 –
x1) / 1000 = 40,0 x1 = 3,33 (g)
(2) Jumlah S terekstraksi, y1 dan y2, dalam tiap ekstraksi, dihitung sebagai berikut
k = ceter / cair = (y1/ 25,0) / (5,0 – y1) / 1000 = 40,0 y1 = 2,50 (g) k = ceter / cair = (y2/ 25,0) /
(2,5 – y2) / 1000 = 40,0 y2 = 1,25 (g)
∴ y1 + y2 = 2,50 + 1,25 = 3,75 (g)
