Foster School of Medicine EPASHP’s annual event was a huge success! Our organization was able to offer participants a total of 7 hours of continuing education that spanned a wide range of topics; programming included Texas pharmacy law, genomics in oncology, pharmacy preceptorship, The Joint Commission, updates in diabetes treatments, and clinical best practices in El Paso. In addition, over thirteen booths hosted by industry sponsors provided the latest updates in pharmaceutical treatments. A special thank you to all those who attended, to the industry sponsors, and to those who donated canned goods!* We hope to see you again next year. *Pictured on the bottom right are Briana Jacobs and Jessica Hernandez collecting canned goods from attendees that were donated to the Kelly Memorial Food Pantry. World of Possibilities Career Day February 20th, 2017 - Stanton Elementary This event was coordinated by our community outreach chair, Lauren Cavanaugh, PharmD. EPASHP was able to p r o m o t e t h e p h a r m a c y profession to local elementary students interested in a career in the healthcare field.

35th Annual Lower Valley Health Fair April 8th, 2017 - Socorro High School

Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists April 28th - 30th, 2017 - Galveston, Texas

EPASHP was excited to participate in this year’s Lower Valley Health Fair. Our organization hosted a booth titled “Re Think Your Drink” that promoted healthy eating. We volunteered alongside pharmacy students and other healthcare providers. Special thanks to Lauren Cavanaugh, PharmD for organizing our participation in this event.

The El Paso Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists Board of Directors made a significant contribution to the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Research and Education Scholarship Foundation. This foundation provides scholarships to pharmacy students across the state of Texas. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to future generations of pharmacists.

CE Event: nPEP and PrEP May 23rd, 2017 - Paul L. Foster School of Medicine This event was coordinated with the help of the AIDS Education and Training Center and Southwest Viral Med. Attendees had the pleasure of listening to an informative talk given by Dr. Ogechika Alozie about nPEP and PrEP; programming included existing treatments and recent developments in care. Dr. Alozie encouraged audience participation with the utilization of live polling.

Compounded Sterile IV Preparation Update May 11th, 2017 - Mesa Street Grill Emily Alexander, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP gave a valuable, one hour presentation about USP <797> revisions, semi-automated IV workflow management systems, and the 2016 FDA guidance documents on compounding of human drug products.
