Main Idea Question Dear Editor,Many people in the Golden Oaks neighborhood drive too fast. The speed limit says 30 miles per
hour, but I think people drive 45 or 50. This is very dangerous. My friends and I cannot ride our bikes
safely. The speeding cars come around corners too fast. We have to swerve off the road to get out of
their way. My friend James broke his arm when he swerved into a ditch. Sometimes drivers run the
stop signs. I have to wait on every car, even if I already stopped at my stop sign. I cannot be sure the
cars will stop for the signs. Some don't even slow down. There are big holes in the road also. These
need to be fixed. They might not bother cars, but they sure can mess up a bicycle. I wish the city
would take care of these problems.
Thank you,
Mia Rochan
What is the main idea of the letter?A. James broke his arm when he swerved into a ditch.B. The neighborhood is a dangerous place for people to ride bikes.C. Drivers run stop signs in the Golden Oaks neighborhood.D. The speed limit in the neighborhoods should be under 30.

Inferences and ConclusionsQuestion Dylan walked in to his room. Posters of his favorite bands covered the wooden
walls. He walked over to the corner where his guitar sat on its stand. Dylanpicked up his worn guitar and wandered over to his bed. He ran his hands across
the strings. He liked the familiar squeaking sounds that came from the guitar. The instrument felt smooth under his rough fingers. Just touching the guitarmade him relax. He smiled, holding it tight in his hands. He began to strum theguitar. He played with ease. Soft, gentle music flew from under his fingertips. The entire world seemed to fade away. He loved the feeling he got when heplayed the guitar. Even the hardest notes came very easily to him. He was calmwith the instrument in his experienced hands. He felt like he could play all day.

our canoe tipped over. We floated away from the rocks and crawledashore. As hard as we tried, we could not get our canoe free fromthe shoals. The bow rope was caught in the rocks on the bottom ofthe river, and the canoe rocked and rolled wildly in the rapids. Thetwo of us stood on the limestone bank and tried to reach the canoeto pull it loose, but we could not free it.

rapids"?A. He wants to show that there is a sense of danger and seriousness.B. He wants to show how hard the two work to climb onto the shore.C. He wants to show that the canoe looks funny going back and forth.D. He wants to show how easy a canoe can get caught in the rapids.
