THANKFUL ALWAYS Sometimes a thing can be so prominent we fail to see it. God is the one being necessary for our happiness and yet what little notice we take of him. We thank many people for being kind to us but we fail to thank God who is the source of all kindness. It is good then that we have a Thanksgiving Day set aside every year for giving special thanks to God. Having Thanksgiving Day reminds us to make every day of the year a hymn of thanksgiving to God, with bowed heads and lifted praise for all that He has given us. OUR TREASURE IN HEAVEN Jesus spoke often about the treasure prepared in heaven for the faithful. But what does it mean to us here on earth, this building up of treasure? To lay up treasure in heaven is to do acts which promote, which belong in the kingdom of God. Our Lord assures us that any act of our hands, any thought of our heart, any word of our lips which promotes the divine kingdom – acts of love, mercy, charity, even pity – all such activity is stored up in the divine treasure house. And when the heavenly city, the New Jerusalem, appears our efforts will be repaid in the glory and majesty of the new kingdom. Our actions may be thankless here, our generosity spurned, our love rejected, but each act lays another coin in our kingdom “bank account” waiting for withdrawal as we enter Paradise.

But what does it mean to us here on earth, this

building up of treasure? To lay up treasure in heaven is to do acts which promote, which belong in the kingdom of God. Our Lord assures us that any act of our hands, any thought of our

heart, any word of our lips which promotes the divine kingdom – acts of love, mercy, charity, even pity – all such

activity is stored up in the divine treasure house. And when the heavenly city, the New Jerusalem, appears our efforts will be

repaid in the glory and majesty of the new kingdom. Our actions may be thankless here, our generosity spurned, our love rejected, but each act lays another coin in our kingdom

“bank account” waiting for withdrawal as we enter Paradise.

ANNUAL STOCKING DRIVE! The Lanark County Food Bank is once again preparing stockings for their clients this Christmas season.

They are requesting you fill your stocking with some of the following items… toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, multi-blade razors, nail clippers, nail files, shaving cream, after-

shave lotion, moisturizing lotion, loofa, hair bush, comb, deodorant, liquid hand soap, bar soap, wet wipes and perhaps a small sweet treat. A box will be provided in the church for your stocking. For many of the

Lanark County Food Bank adults, this is the only gift they will receive this Christmas and they look forward to the wonderful surprises that the stocking holds. Please mark “HIS” or “HERS” on your stocking. The

Food Bank will be handing out the stockings from November 12th – December 23rd so the deadline for donations will be Sunday, November 7th. For more information call Sandy Schappert at 613-251-0642.

Sunday Morning Smile

A man buys a parrot, only to have it constantly insult him. He tries everything to make him quit, but nothing works. Frustrated, the man puts the parrot in the freezer to cool him down. After a few minutes the insults stop. The man thinks he might have killed the parrot, so he opens the freezer and takes the parrot out. The parrot is shivering. It stammers, “S-s-sorry for being r-r-rude. Please f-f-forgive me.” Then, after a moment, the parrot softly asks, “W-w-what exactly d-d-did the turkey do?”

BOUNTIFUL GOD You have blessed us in ways that we cannot even begin to number. We are aware that we take so much for granted. We assume the abundance before us will always be ours. Be with us, members of your family, faithful followers of your Word. Help us to become aware of your gifts and not to take even the smallest among them for granted. Help us to develop a thankful heart and grateful spirit. Bless the food that we share today. Bless our family, our friends, those who go without, the poor, the abandoned, the lonely and the forgotten. We pray in the name of Jesus our Lord.
