eLD Forum: Collections update
February 25th and March 13th 2015Jackie Raw
On April 6th 2015 eLD will be 2 years old. What have we achieved for the collection?
In figures as of 17/02/15• Number of eLD article level records in SOLO: 610,659• Number of eLD book records in SOLO: 11,573• Number of publishers who have transferred: 22 of
which 9 are serial publishers and 13 monograph publishers
• Number of serial holdings records closed or amended: 2879
Which publishers are included?
For monographs-• Hachette and its imprints:– Hodder & Stoughton, Abacus, Blackfriars, John
Murray, Little Brown, Headline, Virago• Orion Group:– Weidenfeld & Nicholson, Gollancz
• Other large publishers:– Accent Press, Cicerone, Kogan Page, Rowman
International
For serials-From 2013: Maney, Wiley, Informa Healthcare
From 2014: OUP, CUP, EUP, MUP, Emerald and SageNote: We also have the OUP archive so we have print copies of OUP journals in addition to the articles deposited under eLD.
From 2015: Royal Society of Chemistry, Inderscience, Equinox, Institute of Physics
Which publishers are included?
What happens next?
For monographs:There is a workshop on Collection Development Policy and Publisher Prioritisation on 9th March at the BL. We will consider those publishers who • Have been pressing strongly for early transition since day 1• Have the technical capability for doing this • Are non or poor depositors in print but who produce a reasonable number of titles
as e-copies• Produce e-only publications.
From this we expect to produce an agreed list of publishers across the LDLs with which the BL can engage during 2015/16.
For serials:
We expect Elsevier, the Royal College of Nursing and the Institute of Engineering and Technology to transfer to eLD later this year.
What happens next?
Metadata update : finding and accessing eLD material in SOLO
Reminder of the types of metadata for eLD
• Title-level records (= bibliographic records)– Ejournals – Ebooks
• Article-level records– Articles in ejournals – Chapters in books
• Issue-level records – To reconstitute journal issues or books
Ebooks metadata
• Harvested from the BL’s OAI-PMH Gateway• Converted from MARCXML to MARC21• Loaded to Aleph and published to SOLO• Vary in fullness from brief acquisitions
records to full-level records with authority control and subject headings
• Upgraded with eCIP data or manually by BL staff

Other publishers matter• Law: Impact on cost of PM & T&F titles insignificant but would
be significant if other publishers transferred: Hart/Intersentia, Sweet & Maxwell, Lexis, Ashgate, CUP, Bloomsbury
• US history: Fairly even spread between CUP, OUP, Routledge & Palgrave for the UK publishers. Overall finding for the US history options is that at present none are a significant impact because the majority of works on the lists are from American publishers.
• History: if CUP and Ashgate transferred, impact would be more significant.
• Theology & Religion: Bloomsbury seems to be next important publisher.
