eLearning - could offer possibilities
• A possibility to combine different tools• More possibilities for interaction

communication

Currently... • traditional teaching models have been
transferred to web-based learning environments --> Have we taken steps backwards?
• eLearning materials are often text-based --> emphasis should be on using the new possibilities for communication and interaction
• too often students don’t get enough of guidance and tutoring --> emphasis should be on developing new methods for tutoring and guidance

Myths and Reality
• Myths– eLearning is a cost-
effective way to teach – eLearning is not
dependent of time and place
– The amount of teachers' work will decrease.
– eLearning will provide only B-class teaching
– There will be no need for face-to-face lectures
• Reality– eLearning will usually
cost more – There is always a need
for time and a place– The amount of teachers’
work will increase.– The quality of learning is
often better than in face-to-face situations.
– There will always be a need for face-to-face situations along with eLearning

Opportunities and challenges
• Opportunities– flexibility in time and
place– adaptability to
different learning styles
– possibility to tailor study programms
– variety in the selection of courses
– ...
• Challenges– new methods for
teaching, learning and tutoring are needed
– new skills required in the development of materials
– time and resources needed for the development
– co-operation between departments and universities is essential
– ...
