_______ Activity 1: Think, Collaborate, and Discuss- Read the story to your child, or listen to your child, read the story "Animals, Animals." Using the discussion cards provided, have your child choose 4 cards and write a response. Use magnetic letters or the letter tiles that follow to complete activities 3, 4 and/or 5.

_______ Activity 2: Two-syllables Combinations 1. Place the syllable cards face down in rows. Provide the student with a student sheet. 2. The student selects two cards and reads them. 3. Determines if they make a word for one of the pictures on the student sheet. 4. If a word is formed, places the cards aside and records the word next to the picture. If a word is not formed, returns cards to their original position. 5. Continues until your child’s sheet is completed.

_______ Activity 3: Combining base words and inflectional endings- 1. Place boxes side by side with the base word box on the left and inflection box on the

right. Place 2 pennies at the center. Provide your child with a paper.

2. Taking turns, students toss a penny into each box. Say the base word and inflection on which the pennies lands (e.g., “walk–ing”). Blend them and read the word (i.e., “walking”).

3. Determine if the word is real or nonsense. If real, write the word on paper.

4. Continue until at least ten real words are listed on paper.

_______ Activity 2: Word Problem Leon has 20 coins in his pocket. Some are quarters and the rest are dimes. He has $3.05 in all. How many quarters and how many dimes does Leon have? Explain the strategy you used to find the number of coins Leon has.

When there is not enough of something, we say that it is scarce. Time, money, goods, or services are all resources. Scarcity leads to people having to make choices. People may choose to pay more for a scarce item, or they can shop somewhere else. Some people may decide to buy something different or nothing at all. What resources are scarce in the picture? What do you think the man should do? Write about it.

How to Play

1. Two players each need 12 counters (bean, coins, etc.) and a

game board. 2. Take turns rolling the dice. 3. Try to match an open number on your game board by adding

(+) or subtracting (-) your dice and cover the number with a marker. 4. The winner is the first one to cover all the numbers on their board.
