    background. i.e. he/she should not jailed formore than 2 years imprisonment

    Regarding Security deposit (not fees)

    To contest for MP election, candidates has todeposit Rs. 10000/- as security deposit, butthere is a concession for a SC/ST candidate

    contesting in MP election, he/she has todeposit Rs.5000 as security amount.

    For those contesting in assembly elections,he/she has to make Rs. 5000 as securitydeposit, while for SC/ST candidates, it is Rs.2500 only.

    Election Commission of India

    Article 324 of the Constitution of India bestows therelevant powers, duties and functions upon the Election

    Commission of India

    Section 14 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951provides for conduct of the elections.

    Election is a mechanism in which people choose theircandidate involving political mobilization and organizational

    complexity.

    Election on 543 seats are to be taken care by the ECI.
