Duration: Occupational Certificate - One term, Certificate of Technology - Two terms, Associate of Applied Science - Four terms An equal opportunity institution Revised 10/2013 Program Objectives The electrical technology curriculum is organized to provide basic preparation for students to fill entry-level positions in residential, commercial and industrial construction fields. Additionally, the curriculum will prepare students for entry-level positions in maintenance, design, marketing, estimating and other electrical- related industries. The curriculum is a registered Electrical Apprenticeship program with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). To become a journeyman electrician, the TDLR requires an apprentice to have 8,000 hours of on-the-job experience in order to take the journeyman exam. In addition to day classes, all courses are offered in the evening which enables apprentices to gain the required on-the-job experience during the day. Journeyman and master electrical exam review courses are offered which prepare the students for taking the state licensing exam. Job Opportunities According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of electricians is expected to increase as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014. As the population and economy grow, more electricians will be needed to install and maintain electrical devices and wiring in homes, factories, offices, and other structures. Additional jobs will be created as older structures are rehabilitated and retrofitted, which usually requires that they be brought up to meet existing electrical codes. New technologies are expected to continue to stimulate a demand for electricians. For example, buildings need to increasingly accommodate the use of computers and telecommunications equipment. Also, the increasing prevalence in factories of robots and other automated manufacturing systems will require more complex wiring systems to be installed and maintained. Experienced electricians can advance to jobs as supervisors. In construction they may also become project managers and construction superintendents. Many electricians become estimators, electrical inspectors, or form their own electrical contracting business. Program ObjectivesThe electrical technology curriculum is organized to provide basic preparation for students to fill entry-level positions in residential, commercial and industrial construction fields. Additionally, the curriculum will prepare students for entry-level positions in maintenance, design, marketing, estimating and other electrical-related industries.

Job OpportunitiesAccording to the U.S.
