New nuclear power plant

covers partly the additional electricity demand and replaces old power plants

enables, together with renewables, the fulfilmentof the Kyoto commitments

secures stable and predictable electricity price

reduces the dependence on electricity import

NEW REACTOR IN FINLAND

- Decision in Principle: Approval of the Finnish Government on 17.1.2002 and ratification of the Parliament on 24.5.2002 by votes 107-92.

- Approval:

- one reactor: BWR or PWR

- location either Loviisa or Olkiluoto

- size 1 000 – 1 600 MW

- corresponding enlargement of the final repository for spent fuel

- Continuation:

- Bid invitations during this year

- Target: new unit in operation before the end of this decade.
