Books introduce phonemes in the same order as Letters and Sounds to help children decode the books by themselves in line with your synthetic phonics teaching.

Children who’ve enjoyed the fi rst book can move on to another with the same characters.

The fi ne levelling gives children plenty of opportunity to develop their reading skills and master each fi ne step.

We’ve teamed up with some big names like Cartoon Network, Penguin, Aardman and the BBC to create stories with characters that children already know and love – Ben 10, Angelina Ballerina, Wallace and Gromit, Harry and his Bucket of Dinosaurs, Shaun the Sheep and Doctor Who, to name but a few. And, unlike the books you’ll fi nd in bookshops around these characters, the books in Bug Club are fi nely levelled so that children can decode the book by themselves.

Each character has its own mini-series of two, three or four books, with each book going up one reading level. This is to help stretch children who have enjoyed the fi rst book in a series and want to read more of the same. The fi ne levelling and sub-division of the reading bands ensure that the step isn’t too great between each book.

Ben 10 Ben 10 is an action adventure cartoon series known to pretty much every boy the world over! With the aid of a watch-like device from outer space he transforms into a range of alien creatures to fi ght crime.

Shaun the Sheep Shaun the Sheep is a Nick Park creation beloved of CBBC viewers everywhere! Leader of the fl ock, he’s a clever sheep who keeps his head while all about him are losing theirs!

Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs Harry is a 5 year old boy with a magic bucketful of dinosaurs! By jumping in he’s transported to DinoWorld where he has lots of fun with Tawry, Trike, Pterence and the gang.

Sarah Jane Former assistant to ‘The Doctor’, Sarah Jane has her own adventures these days - aided by a team of clever teens and a sonic screwdriver disguised as a lipstick. A huge success in its own right, it was nominated for the British Academy Children’s award in 2008.

A Guided Reading Card for every book gives you detailed support for a session or series of sessions and enables you to collect evidence for Assessing Pupils’ Progress (APP).

Bug Club books have been scrutinised by Book Bands for Guided Reading authors and Reading Recovery professionals, Shirley Bickler and Suzanne Baker, so that you can feel confi dent when using the books for guided reading. The Guided Reading Cards help you to get the most out of your guided reading sessions as they home in on one Assessment Focus for Reading, Speaking and Listening, and Writing so that you can collect focused evidence for APP.

And don’t forget that each book comes with parent notes to extend teaching into the home.

Pearson is committed to reducing its impact on the environment by using responsibly sourced and recycled paper.
