FACTS VIETNAMESE CUSTOMS  Most of Vietnamese people (especially mature in working age) believe in rituals, religion, … Vietnam has about 24 million religious followers (11 million Buddhist), 8000 festivals on Tet occasion. ***(Statistics of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism)

CUSTOMS IN TET Mua và xin câu đối trước Tết  Mâm ngũ quả: “Cầu dừa đủ xoài” Xông nhà Đi chùa cầu may Khai Ấn - Khai Bút Xin xăm” Especially different in 3 regions: North: Not share water in Tet because water is perceived as wealth. Central: Not eat shrimp as shrimp move backwards so the whole year will go back as well. South: Not leave rice miller empty on the first day of Tet because it is a symbol of failure, losing season next year. People often shed a little rice into the miller, implies praying for a new year filled with rice. => All activities in Tet holiday are done because people want luck for the whole year. They believe what they do in the very first days decides the whole year. => Tết is the only occasion for Vietnamese people to pray, wish for their next year.

WHAT PEOPLE USUALLY DO IN TET? & WHY TET BUT NOT OTHER OCCASIONS?

THE WHOLE YEAR

Why Tet? In Tet I usually do rituals including ancestor worship, “Cúng Ông Táo”, Tất Niên, ... to pray for good luck. Why it is important? Tet represents the start for a year, for the new challenges so I want it to be more luckier.  So what? I believe that if I do rituals it will bring the best things for the whole year. So what is the problems? (Tension) But in modern world, all my work follow solar calendar. It is a GAP MONTH till I officially doing rituals for my work although I start it before. I feel UNSURE if it is lucky for my beginnings.

INSIGHT: I always put the first priority into doing rituals, wishing luck for my year to ENSURE it will be more luckier. But I am afraid that all the things I do in lunar new year is not worthy because my actual beginnings are in solar new year.

BIG IDEA LUCK IN TIME Luck only happens when preparation (doing rituals) meets opportunity. (actual beginnings in solar new year).

EXECUTION ROADMAP TRIGGER

APPROACHING STRATEGY From the tension of being UNSURE if it is lucky for actual beginnings of the year (Follow solar year), we make people realize that their efforts for lunar new year (occasion wishing for luck) are not so much worthy in modern life. Then we offer them a new occasion to help their preparation (doing rituals) meet the opportunity.

ENGAGEMENT

Make people realize what they rarely notice: their efforts for lunar new year no longer fit in nowaday social context. Then encourage them to find their own solutions.    

Offer a solution to their problems: move all their efforts for lunar new year to solar new year. We do not leave off Tet, we just move it to a more suitable (worth the efforts) occasion.

CALL TO ACTION

After all, we call upon our target audience to vote for a more suitable Tet.

PHASE 1- THE QUESTION Trigger the controversy through a viral clip on social channels with the support from PR, digital, KOLs,... In the past, praying for luck in Tet is reasonable because it’s the beginning time of farming season(tiết thanh xuân). But in modern life, most of the important beginnings follow solar calendar, why people still wish for luck on this occasion? The clip will indicate the contradicting things they are doing but can not realise.

Giao  thừa  30  Tết,  một  gia  đình  nọ  thức  xem  pháo  hoa.  Một  đứa  bé  được  người  bà  mình  dẫn  vào  phòng  đi  ngủ.  Đứa  bé  không  muốn  ngủ,  nên  nói  với  bà:      -­‐  “Cháu  sợ  đi  ngủ  thì  sẽ  hết  Tết,  phí  lắm”      Người  bà  nói  chuyện  với  đứa  cháu  1  lúc,  thì  đứa  cháu  hỏi  `ếp:      -­‐  “Tết  vui  vậy,  tại  sao  1  năm  không  tổ  chức  nhiều  lần  ạ?”    Người  bà  mỉm  cười,  kể  lại  cho  đứa  cháu  nghe  về  Tết  lúc  xưa  như  thế  nào.  Về  chuyện  ngày  Tết  năm  xưa  thực  chất  là  dịp  cầu  may  cho  ngành  nông  nghiệp  lúa  nước.  Khi  nước  ta  còn  nghèo,  người  dân  mong  muốn  Tết  là  một  dịp  khởi  đầu  cho  1  năm  suông  sẻ  may  mắn.  cv

Đứa  trẻ  thiếp  đi  ngủ,  thức  dậy  đã  trở  thành  1  người  trưởng  thành.  Người  thanh  niên  ấy  đang  viết  những  mục  `êu  trong  năm.      Đoạn  sau  thể  hiện  người  thanh  niên  ấy  chưa  dám  sẵn  sàng  bắt  đầu  những  việc  trong  tờ  giấy  note  đó,  mặc  dù  anh  hoàn  toàn  có  cơ  hội.      Và  anh  đã  bỏ  lỡ  rất  nhiều  thứ  mà  anh  không  biết.  Cô  bạn  gái  hỏi  anh  tại  sao  anh  lại  có  cảm  giác  bất  an  mà  không  dám  làm  thì  anh  ta  trả  lời.      -­‐  “Anh  nghĩ  qua  Tết  làm  sẽ  tốt  hơn”  (link  sang  câu  chuyện  đem  lại  may  mắn  từ  người  bà  đoạn  trước)      -­‐  “Nhưng  anh  đang  sợ  chính  bản  thân  mình.  Khi  anh  không  dám  bắt  đầu”  

Những  hình  ảnh  anh  ta  phải  làm  những  thứ  quan  trọng  vào  dịp  Tết  dương.      -­‐  “Anh  luôn  muốn  may  mắn  khi  bắt  đầu  1  thứ  gì  đó.  Nhưng  anh  lại  khởi  đầu  rồi  mới  mong  mình  có  được  may  mắn”      Chàng  trai  suy  nghĩ  về  lời  của  cô  gái.      Hiện  lên  TEXT:    “CHÚNG  TA  MUỐN  CUỘC  SỐNG  TỐT  HƠN.  NHƯNG  LẠI  MUỐN  CUỘC  SỐNG  CŨ  ĐI”      Những  context  từ  những  người  khác  để  ví  dụ  trường  hợp  của  anh  ta.      Hiện  lên  TEXT:  “KHÔNG  LẼ  PHẢI  BỎ  TẾT  SAO?”

PHASE 2- THE ANSWER Offer a solution (move all efforts for lunar new year to solar new year) by releasing the ending of viral clip on social media (facebook, youtube,…) and continue to promote the advantages of merging 2 “Tet” through PR, KOLs,… At the end of the clip, link directly to voting website.

PHASE 3 - YOUR CHOICE After all, we call upon our target audience to vote for a more suitable Tet.
