Ellenbrook aims to provide a welcoming, secure, and happy school:

• Where our children are inspired to learn

• Where achievement is built on the individual talents of each child

• Where creative thinking, endeavour and enterprise are nurtured

• Where academic standards are raised

• Where children are equipped with the skills to succeed in an ever changing world

• Where all children, staff, parents and governors work together towards the success of all the children

• Where everyone understands the value of respect

• Where the local community are welcomed

• Where , through all the Arts, the cultural diversity of the modern world is celebrated

• Where the environment and global issues are valued

• Where everyone puts children first

The purpose of this document is to capture and develop the school’s ICT Strategy and Vision through a series of meetings with Senior Leaders, using our knowledge and understanding of the school, its priorities and the latest technologies that can support them. We will also reference other key documents such as the School Improvement Plan and latest Ofsted report.

The school’s strategy and vision will detail the overall goals and vision for the future of ICT in the school; this will be translated into a set of actions which may include some technology refresh; all these items will then be plotted onto a roadmap, which will identify the key activities and milestones as we work in partnership towards the ICT strategy and vision. It is likely that the document will need to adapt to changes in available technology, curriculum, pedagogy and lessons learned as we progress.

ICT Strategy & Vision

RM has been working in partnership with the school and local authority since September 2010 to deliver an ICT Managed Service. Working with the school; utilising RM’s knowledge of ICT in education; combined with the vision of schools and the authority, RM will develop an ICT Vision & Strategy document and a technology roadmap.

Ellenbrook Community Primary School values the huge impact that parents can have on their child’s education and there are many opportunities for parents to get involved in the life of the school. We work hard to provide the best quality service for the children, parents and the community that we can. Our school forms the centre of our community and we hope that you will quickly feel part of it. Our school is welcoming and safe and we hope your child will soon feel a sense of belonging and team spirit.

We all want the same thing – the highest quality education for our children. We want our children to be happy, enthusiastic learners. These high expectations are embodied in our school’s School Aims which were developed in partnership between the Governors and Staff. If you wish to find out more about Ellenbrook Community Primary School, please make an appointment with the School Secretary, so that we can show you everything that makes us so proud!

We are very fortunate to have some of the most up-to-date Information Technology systems and equipment available. Each classroom has its own interactive whiteboard with a networked laptop. There are netbooks available for each Key Stage and a set of ipads. Alongside this, we have an extensive range of software available to the children. This software not only supports and enriches the broader curriculum but teaches the children specific skills within the Computing curriculum.

StabilityThe network should be stable, up-to-date, and robust and fit for purpose. Solutions made available to the school should be linked into the overall Vision of the school and working closely with RM to meet those requirements through the Roadmap, Strategy & Vision.

Usability Teaching staff should have the confidence in technology to be able to walk into any of the schools classrooms and begin using ICT without hesitation or worry. The make or model of hardware or software should not be a limiting factor to learning and teaching. Many of the developments within this part of the vision will be dependent upon teachers having the basic skills required to use the technology and to be able to leverage the technology to achieve increases in creativity, efficiency, effectiveness and attainment. There are regular opportunities for professional development throughout the year, so that teachers remain confident with 21st century technologies.

Pupil EngagementPupils are engaged when the technology is used in a meaningful way to enhance the curriculum, this is permanently innovated. The school plan to invest into new technology transforming areas of the school to engage with pupils in all key stages, with a range of products and devices to compliment the curriculum and schools vision.

After a number of meetings with Ellenbrook Community Primary School we have identified the following three key parts to the schools ICT Strategy & Vision. These three core components will be used to ensure we are focusing our effort in the right areas and that we continue to work towards the overall objective.

These three components will then be broken down into smaller, more manageable objectives and will be translated into a set of activities that can be monitored and tracked. Allowing us, at a glance, to track progress against objectives as well as being able to have a view of up and coming projects.

13.

Servers

When: 2016 Who: School What: A server is key to ensure the network in the school still operates to allow access to all users, data storage and resources for teaching and learning. This is the hub of everything available within the school ICT network. RM will work with the school to suggest suitable options in terms of replacement, that suits the needs of the school

Why: The schools Server is currently 5 years old and a refresh of equipment will be required to ensure stability on the schools network. As with all technology, servers do become end of life and risk failure if its run for too long.

Stability

Student Devices

When: Ongoing Who: School What: Student devices are key for teaching the ICT curriculum. A mixed environment of devices across the school, provides a varied and useful experience to take forward into secondary school. It’s also key that the school don’t rush into purchasing a certain type of device and make the key curriculum decisions first, which will then drive the technology required to compliment the applications that will be used. Ipads have been reconfigured and a VPP setup for application handling and roll out.

Why: It’s important to plan to refresh devices every 3 years, due to the high usage and rapid technology development. Support and advice available from RM to assist in identifying the right devices for the school based on the curriculum decisions. Investing in new technology like the HP Laptops, Lenovo Tablets and iPads last year will provide confidence for teaching staff, that new devices can meet the requirements to deliver a full ICT lesson with no issues.

CPD: Training available to support new devices for pupils.

Stability

Remote Access / Cloud When: 2016 Who: RM What: Accessible solutions and technology is key to saving time, offering flexibility and retaining security. With remote access to files and resources on the Cloud, the school can offer that flexible working to all staff and pupils moving forward. This will support the vision in using a range of devices and confidence to use technology available from anywhere

Why: To assist with Pupil and Staff Engagement; the ability to utilise anytime access for pupil and teachers. Products such as RM Unify, Office 365 or RM Portico, enables easy access to key applications and documentation store from anywhere. RM Unify enables the school to move towards cloud based learning, with a wide range of applications available for all year groups

CPD: Training sessions available for using RM Unify and Office 365 for learner engagement sessions. ICT Subject Leader to book RM Unify refresher training then disseminate to staff.

UsabilityStability

Wireless

When: 2020 Who: School What: Wireless provision that enables all devices to connect to the network and internet from anywhere in the school. To ensure an up-to-date and stable wireless solution is in place for the school to utilise.

Why: With plans to increase device numbers further in the future, the wireless solution will need to be reviewed to support new technology and supply suitable coverage in the future. The current solution was installed in Summer 2015 and should be reviewed in 2020.

Usability Pupil Engagement

LAN

When: 2016-2017 Who: SCC & School What: The infrastructure and Local Area Network (LAN) within the school runs the physical network cable connections to desktops and wireless access points for a wireless solution to work.

Why: The current switches in the school are 10 years old and will require replacement in the next 12-18 months. This will ensure the physical infrastructure within the school remains reliable and stable to support ICT.

Stability

14.

Printers

When: 2017 Who: School What: The school currently has a printer contract with a local company who leases out the central school copier.

Why: When the contract for the central copier is up for renewal, the school will investigate to seek the best option going forward. New year group inkjets have been costed out; each year group will have a limited budget of ink per year. This should ease the demand on the central copier and increase staff accountability.

Teacher Walls

When: 2017-2018 Who: School What: The school currently have SMART boards and projectors, this is old technology and has been in the school for a number of years, which are also starting to fail. Instead of funding the repair costs or replacement bulbs for this equipment, the school plan to replace with new interactive TV’s like the iBoards, which work out more cost effective over the coming years.

Why: The projectors are old technology and have been in the school for a number of years. Instead of funding the repair costs for old equipment, the school plan to continue the rollout of Interactive TV’s throughout the school over the next few years.

CPD: Training sessions available to support staff using interactive boards.
