Pre-K Loves Trees!
Pre-K is learning about trees and what lives in trees. We are reading stories about trees like A Tree Named Steve by Alan Zweibel and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault. The students took “tree walks” around the school to look at the trees, and they are collecting parts of trees for their Discovery Centers.
Family Reading Night “Turkey Trouble”
November Family Night at Elliott was a huge success, especially for the turkeys! Families enjoyed their time together listening to the story Turkey Trouble written by Wendi Silvano told from a turkey’s point of view. The turkey realizes that he will be the main course at Thanksgiving. He decides he needs to come up with a clever disguise so that he will not be recognized and served on Thanksgiving Day. After listening to the story, Elliott’s families went straight to work crafting amazing disguises to help the turkey. It is safe to say that there is no more “Turkey Trouble” at Elliott due to the turkey disguises designed by our creative families.
Ask the OT:
Seven Sensory Differences
Did you know: We use all seven senses every day? Seven?
Beyond the five senses we learn about in school (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch) there are actually two more: the vestibular system (sense of balance) and proprioception (our intuitive sense of space and position).
Sense #6 – The Vestibular System (balance): The vestibular system is the scientific term for our sense of balance, responsible for keeping us upright and in balance.
Sense #7 – Proprioception (space & position): Proprioception is our body and brain working together to understand and navigate space and objects.
Children develop and learn about these senses through movement, so encourage your child to be active
and play outside!

SUBJECT: Do DEA 2016 Speak Up Survey Participation
OCT Z 6 2016 SY16-17-29
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is participating once again as a district in the annual nationwide Speak Up Survey administered by Project Tomorrow. This survey has been taken by over 4.5 million participants in 35,000 schools across the Nation since 2003. While thi s is entirely voluntary, all parents, students, teachers and administrators are encouraged to take the survey, which is open between now and December 16, 2016. The data obtained will allow DoDEA to make better technology decisions, from how DoDEA resources classrooms to the type of professional development teachers need. This is your opportunity to Speak Up!
While widest participation is encouraged, this does not constitute a direct endorsement of Project Tomorrow or the survey's sponsors and using instructional time to give this survey to students is not required . No personally identifiable data is captured during the taking of this survey; it is completely anonymous. DoDEA has been granted approval by the Department of Defense and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) as well as an OMB control number to make this survey avai lable to our military and civilian stakeholders. The survey can be accessed at http://www.tomorrow.org/speakup/DoDEA.html, and additional promotional materials are at http://www.tomorrow.org/speakup/promo.html. All principals are encouraged to send infom1ation out to parents and students about this opportunity.
For questions or concerns related to the contents of this memorandum, please contact Mr. Patrick Martin, Instructional Systems Specialist for Educational Technology, via e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at DSN (3 12) 372-5841/ (57 1) 372-5841.
