Designing Applying Colour and Pattern to Fabric Sewing Machine Skills

M

I can create innovative and original designs with clear reference to the theme of the project. Drawings are produced to a very high standard with good detail and application of colour. I create a wide range of different and experimental ideas

before deciding on a final outcome.

I have experimented with a wide range of techniques including shibori and embroidery. The techniques that I have used on my final outcome are highly detailed, well considered

and clearly reflect the theme through the choice of colour and pattern. I understand what is the correct fabric choice for different techniques.

I can set up the machine independently. I have good control of

the machine and my sewing is accurate because of this.

S

I can produce good quality drawings demonstrating a range of

different ideas for print designs, colour is considered and well

applied. I have a range of different ideas that could be further

developed, most link to the theme of the project.

I have experimented with a range of dyeing techniques, I have considered how to create different patterns through the use of resist

dyeing and some of these are successful. The techniques that I have used on my final

outcome have been considered and planned out to look appealing.

I can set up the machine with some support to remind me and know what

the correct settings are in order to begin sewing. I have some control

over the machine.

DI have considered the theme in order to produce more than two

design ideas. These are drawn to a reasonable standard with colour

added.

I have experimented with at least two different ways to make pattern through resist dyeing. The techniques that I have used on my final

outcome relate to my drawn designs.

I can set up the machine with support for each stage. I can sew with the

machine if the settings have been set correctly. I sometimes lose control of

the machine.Subject – Textiles, Year 7

Product Construction Evaluation

M

I can work independently to construct my product after watching demonstrations. I fully understand what the

right side of the fabric is, what raw edges are and how this affects the construction. Sewing lines are straight as my hand tacking was effective in holding all pieces of the purse together. I have pivoted on all corners on

the sewing machine and trimmed all excess edges.

I continually review and reflect on my work throughout the project. I make improvements to my outcome by recognising

when I have made a mistake or if something doesn't look right and correcting it. My final written evaluation is detailed and

justifies all decisions that I have made.

SMy product is fully constructed correctly when reminded

of the processes for making. There are no raw edges showing and the ends of the zipper are enclosed within

the purse.

I identify some technical problems as they arise and ask for support to correct them. Sometimes I will change techniques

that I am using if they are unsuccessful. My final written evaluation describes successes and areas for improvement in

my work.

D My product is mostly complete, with support I have followed the correct stages of making.

If problems are identified with my product, I correct them with support. I am able to describe the tools, techniques,

processes and materials used to make my product, and what I like about my final outcome.
