Elzeblaadje’s Elegant Edge
Crochet pattern
Introduction My first Sophie’s Universe has a border of my own design, Elzeblaadje’s Elegant Edge. I have written the instructions for the making in this document. The border was inspired by several books about edging and borders like “Exquisite Trims in Thread Crochet by Caitlin Sainio” and” Around the Corner Crochet Borders by Edie Eckman”. More information: http://elzeboom.wordpress.com/ (Dutch) http://elzeblaadje.wordpress.com/ (English)
Yarn and material The E.E.E. is made as border of the Sophie’s Universe, in 9 different colors of SMC Bravo acrylic yarn, with hook 4.0 mm and hook 4.5 mm. You need also a yarn needle.
U.S. terms are used
St = stitch
Sk = skip
Ch = chain
Chsp = chainspace
SLst = slip stitch
Sc -= single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Bphdc = backpost half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Bpdc = Backpost double crochet
Fpdc = frontpost double crochet
** = repeat pattern between stars
Attention: Rounds are to be crocheted in one direction.

The Basics Cast on -- Crochet sc or use other stitches along the edge of your work or blanket to make the basic row or round. If necessary crochet in corners 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc. Counting – Make notes of the number of stitches in your rounds. The E.E.E is mostly dividable by 5, the last round by 3. Starting a round -- Start with a standing dc, hdc or standing sc or attach with a loop and crochet ch 3, ch 2 or ch 1 instead of 1 dc, 1 hdc or 1 sc. Pull the loose thread through the loop to secure the stitch. Ending a round -- End with a slst or needle join in the first dc or sc of your round and clip the yarn. One direction – the rounds are crocheted in one direction. Corners – In the written instructions are not always instructions for the corners included. But in general you crochet in the 2 chsp: 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc in a round of sc, and 2 hdc/dc, ch 2, 2 hdc/dc in rounds of hdc and dc.
