Jakes Boys, based in Gibson City, along with Mike Dalton will a Night of Gospel Music from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Lorraine, 324 E. Main, Hoopeston. Jakes Boys features leads Doug Bennett and Jeff Glascock, tenors Tom Fairchild and Merle McCallis- ter, baritones Tom Bennett and Alex Bennett and basses, Tom Litwiller and Doug Schultz, all of the Gibson City area. Three talented accompanists round out the performance. The group got its start after its members participated in a production of Joseph and The Amazing Techni- color Dream Coatin 1997. When performances end- ed, the men - all members of the cast and crew - got together to sing. Jakes Boys sings mostly southern gospel songs, but also a wide variety of music centering on patriotism and old-time hymns. Freewill donations will be accepted. Next weekend, the Lorraine will host the stage play, Steel Magnolias, at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26. The comedy/drama was written by Robert Harling about the bond among a group of Southern women in a small Louisiana town. Ashley Beauvois is directing the production, pre-sented with permission by Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. The cast includes Jeanette Andre as Truvy, Judy Doeden as Clairee, Janell Sechriest as Annelle, Holly Isaac as Shelby, Amy Buttram as Ouiser and Sarah Miller as M’lynn. General admission tickets are $10 each, available online or at DACC Hoopeston Higher Learning Cen-ter, Treasured Roots, Hoopeston City Hall, Mr. B’s and at the Little Lorraine during movie times. All proceeds fund the Lorraine Theatre restoration project.

Fire damages semis at McCord’s A report of smoke at McCord Trucking, 102 E. Thompson resulted in Hoopeston firefighters being on the scene for about two hours. Hoopeston Fire Department was called at 8:11 p.m. Sunday for smoke in the area and arrived to find fire in the building. Fire Chief Joel Bird said the fire started in the cab of a semi parked inside and spread to two other vehicles. The only other damage was smoke damage to the inside of the building, he said. A damage estimate was not availa-ble at press time. No injuries were reported. Firemen were called at 8:28 p.m. Monday to the 400 block of West Lincoln for a report of smoke in a resi-dence. Firemen requested Ameren representatives to respond to the scene. There was no actual fire and no injuries reported.

The Cornjerker girls bowling team traveled to Taylor-ville Saturday for a six-game tournament. The Jerkers, led by Freshman Riley Miller 217 and senior Alyssa Yaden 212 in game 1, took a 26-pin lead and never looked back. Game 2 saw senior Jaylyn Linder bowl a fine 241 with

support from Yaden and Kayla Goble bowling 183 and Miller’s 177 to extend their lead with a team and tourna-ment high score of 920. At the half way point the Cornjerkers led Pana by 291 pins. Goble led game 4 with a fine 212 and Yaden’s career high 220 paced game 5. Game 6 saw the lead extend to 379. The consistency showed as Linder finished second in the six-game series, followed by Yaden in third, Goble in fourth and 5 Riley Miller, fifth. Maddie Goble was just outside the top 10. In the high single game Linder was third, Yaden fourth, Riley fifth and Kayla Goble eighth. The girls have a home match on Tuesday at Fast Lanes at 4 p.m. with Bloomington High and conclude with Sen-

ior Night Friday at 4:30 at Fast Lanes against Danville. Everyone is welcome to send off seniors, Jaylyn Linder, Kayla Goble, Alyissa Yaden, Maddie Goble and Payton Berlin in their final home match. The boys enter regional play Saturday at Jerseyville and Monday the girls travel to Sterling for a 10-team tournament.
