Emancipa tion (Three Women Breaking Out) With this piece I have attempted to convey the plight of women through the ages - their struggle to become liberated. The first woman - most deeply embedded in the stone - represents the struggle of woman since the time of the cave man, when she was without any rights, simply a possession - perceived by men as servant and bearer of children. The second figure represents woman a bit further freed - angry and fighting men’s perception of her as belonging in the home, barefoot and pregnant. She is black because the black woman’s struggle, has unfortunately been more difficult and slower than the white woman’s progress. The third figure is Today’s Woman, still devoid of full and equal rights but stepping out and entering the age of what we hope to be - full emancipation. This bronze is mounted on a round stone base which matches the patina of the bronze. This, in turn, is mounted on a lazy-susan which makes all the figures visible, no matter were “Emancipation” may be placed in your room. Emancipation

(Three Women Breaking Out)

With this piece I have attempted to convey the plight of women through the ages - their struggle to become liberated. She is black because the black woman’s struggle, has unfortunately been more

difficult and slower than the white woman’s progress. The third figure is Today’s Woman, still devoid of full and equal rights but stepping out and entering the age of what

we hope to be - full emancipation. This bronze is mounted on a round stone base which matches the patina of the bronze. This, in turn, is mounted on

a lazy-susan which makes all the figures visible, no matter were “Emancipation” may be placed in your room.

Emancipation

(Three Women Breaking Out)

With this piece I have attempted to convey the plight of women through the ages - their struggle to become liberated.

She is black because the black woman’s struggle, has unfortunately been more difficult

and slower than the white woman’s progress. The third figure is Today’s Woman, still devoid of full and equal rights but stepping out and entering the age of what we

hope to be - full emancipation. This bronze is mounted on a round stone base which matches the patina of the bronze. This, in turn, is mounted on a

lazy-susan which makes all the figures visible, no matter were “Emancipation” may be placed in your room.
