(November 25, 2015) – On Monday, December 7, 2105, Embrace will begin its tenth home remodel for local disabled Vietnam veteran, Specialist Fourth Class (Army), Steven Ellenson, as part of the Healing Our Heroes’ Home program. This milestone remodel will include a dedication ceremony that will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 10:00am at the veteran’s home. San Diego County Board Supervisor Diane Jacob will be on hand to present a proclamation to both Embrace and Mr. Ellenson. Steven Ellenson joined the Army in 1968 as a Military Policeman. He was later promoted to Sp4 and assigned to Fort Mead, Maryland as part of a riot control unit. Once the country entered into war, he volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he served on the convoy escort team. Ellenson suffers from permanent PTSD, making it difficult to begin or complete necessary home projects.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (November 25, 2015) – On Monday, December 7, 2105, Embrace will begin its tenth home remodel for local disabled Vietnam veteran, Specialist Fourth Class (Army), Steven Ellenson, as part of the Healing Our Heroes’ Home program. This milestone remodel will include a dedication ceremony that will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 10:00am at the veteran’s home. San Diego County Board Supervisor Diane Jacob will be on hand to present a proclamation to both Embrace and Mr. Ellenson.

“Embrace is particularly excited to serve Steven Ellenson and his wife Judy, not only because they represent our 10th remodel, but because Steven is our first beneficiary to serve in Vietnam. We are eager to work with Sundt Construction, to ensure this remodel is as impactful as the previous nine.” Said Embrace Founder, Sean Sheppard.

Over 100 volunteer contractors and members of the community will invest over 500 hours of labor to complete the remodel. The entire remodel and construction will be managed and overseen by Sundt Construction. The scope of the remodel includes major property cleanup, central air installation, new concrete front driveway, new

deck and privacy fencing, flooring replacement, complete kitchen and bathroom remodel, appliance replacement, re-wiring of entire house, installation of energy efficient windows, new fencing. Materials and labor are estimated to be worth approximately $60,000.

Presenting sponsor for this project is the Grainger Foundation and Sundt Construction. Community Partner sponsors are SDG&E and Jack In The Box Foundation and the Rob Benzon Foundation. In Kind sponsor is the Home Depot Foundation

All Embrace programs aim to create a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic service learning experiences for college students, connect young adults to veteran community members in need, raise awareness of low income, disabled veterans and increase the value and efficient use of their homes.

The organization focuses on the utilization of college students and recent graduates todevelop their leadership qualities and remedy community problems such as health disparities and homelessness on a volunteer basis. Founder Sean Sheppard's ultimate goal is to bring about legislation that makes community service mandatory for all college students that attend state funded institutions of higher education.
